I tried a new technique!
I tried a new technique on my daughter's hair this past week - African Hair Threading aka Ghana Plaits. Has anyone else tried this technique? What do you think of it? So far, I love it! You can check out pictures on my blog here: African Hair Threading Keep in mind that I am cornrow challenged, so some parts of the style did not come out as I would have liked, but I'm still learning
Re: I tried a new technique!
My mom did this all the time when I was a child (I'm Nigerian btw) and my hair was ridiculously long. I'm in high school now and my main goal is to get my hair back to how it was back then like it was in kindergarten.

@ free2beme I'm on that same road.

I used to have my hair threaded, but mine was completely wrapped in thread. Just me? It must be the ultimate protective hairstyle!

Thanks for the replies!
I'm guessing that it's so great because there seems to be less stress and pulling on the hair than braids. It's definitely easier to take down. It may easily become a favorite for me.

@ Jo Somebody: nope, not just you. I'm also Nigerian and I used to get these done all the time and it used to be completely covered in thread. More often than not though, my mom didn't use thread, we used this black rubber stringy things that look like threads, but aren't. They're more shiny, too. Perhaps, some of you know what I'm talking about. And my hair was super long.

Yeah, Nigerian also. I think my aunty used to do them for me, for some reason my mum was never good at anything to do with hair. I dunno if I got much growth from it, I think it was basically a good way to get my hair out of the way for a while to make life easier for us all. I assume it stopped because I 'progressed' to Jheri curls. Sad times.

I'm tempted to try it on myself, but like you I don't know if I could do it myself.
@tamtam7, Thank you so much!
@NiJewel, I've heard about that rubber string that you're talking about. I don't know if I'll have any luck, but I'm going to try and see if I can find some of that...once I know the name of it of course.
Thanks for all the responses!

Ooh, yes please do! Whenever I search hair thread, I get results for like Asian eyebrow threading!
I dunno if I'd wear the thread as an adult though, I see it as a child thing. Maybe it could be useful for the wig wearers?

Re: I tried a new technique!
So far this is the only thing I've found. Does this seem right: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/107693140/Polyvinyl_tube_RUBBER_HAIR_THREAD.html? I wish I could find it in smaller quantities.

YaY!!! Great choice...St.Lucia is very humid and hot so be veryy prepared! I know that there are travel restrictions but try to get your no-sulphate poo down here ....as a matter of fact all your hair products.. You can get unrefined AUTHENTIC castor and coconut oils from local markets so take advantage of that...message me for anything else

Allow that! Who has $100 to burn?? It looks kinda similar in shininess, but not a thick. Oh well!
