Whats my hair type? Empty Whats my hair type?

Post by NewlyNaturalT 6th January 2011, 4:55 pm

Does anyone know how to determine what my hair type is? My hair has tight curls as well as loops and s's. No z's or shrp bends. How do I examine a single strand to find out what my type is?
Thank you?

Check out livefreelivecurly.com's Curly Basics. You can check out what really matters in maintaining healthy curls--porosity, elasticity, texture & density.

Many use Andre Walker's system for hair typing. It is subjective.
1 - Straight
2 - Wavy
3 - Curly (S-shaped curls, corkscrews the diameter of pens/pencils and larger)
4 - Tightly curly (coils the size of coffee stirrers to slightly smaller than the diameter of a pen/pencil)

Thanks guys, I will be posting a pic soon rayray. I just bc'd on 1/5/11 so I guess I can get a better look at the curl pattern of a single strand. The pic examples that Andre Walker uses look nothing like my strands (before bc). I hear that the pattern can change after bc so I will have to check. This question may sound silly but what is a corkscrew? Honestly I guess I have to learn the difference between coils and corkscrews.

a corkscrew is a tighter coil if that makes sense. Congrats on your BC!

Absolutely check out livecurlylivefree.com. It gives you ALL you need to know beyond the curl classification system so that you can truly care for your hair. Excellent recommendation Chrs dance
