Castor Oil--A Humectant
So I understand that Castor oil is a Humectant, I usually use it to seal my hair before styling...does anyone use this in the winter safely, or do you switch up for the dry air?

I have been using castor oil and its been working great in my hair since the weather has gotten colder. Everyones hair is different so I'd say give it a try and if your hair likes it roll with it sis! lol

i have been using castor oil to seal my hair. my hair seems to keep its moisture even with the changing weather. i believe this is so because i really really moisturize my hair and a little castor is used to seal. also, the relative humidity should be taken in consideration when using humectants. so, you should be fine. perhaps mix it with another oil so that it can 'steal' that oils' moisture before using it to seal.

Hey that's a really good suggestion because I'm pretty heavy handed, so when I use it I tend so slather it on, so maybe I'll mix it with some EVOO...that's brilliant dajewel :-) Thank U!

Re: Castor Oil--A Humectant
I have been using Castor Oil on my hair after i cowash and i love it! I do twists while my hair is damp and i use the oil as i go through making each twist. I then pin it down a little with hair pins (for more stretch) and air dry. It actually helps "set" the twist and enhances my curls. Also, my hair use to be dry feeling in the beginning aka "Brillo Pad", but now it is soo soft i can't stop touching it (lol). It has def changed my hair for the better. It hasn't mattered about the weather either. It is very cold here now, but i have been using it since the hot weather. Hope that helps you
Re: Castor Oil--A Humectant
Well I washed, DC'd and, used a leave-in, and sealed with an EVOO&CO mix like dajewel suggested (umm dajewel who I find out is a freggin' genius- chemist extraordinaire...saw the spotlight article :-)) I'll see how my hair does this week as its supposed to get colder and the air drier! I'd still like to know if other naturals who use castor oil adjust their routines to accomodate the drier air.
