Who's used mustard oil?

Hi girls,

My mum bought mustard oil a while ago and she said that people use it in India for massages and it helps the hair get thicker and darker which does sound quite cool. I used it once as part of a DC where I mixed it with conditioner that I warmed in the microwave and with honey and it did moisturise my hair pretty well.

So, my question is, has anybody used mustard oil and how would you incorporate it into your reggie?

I haven't but I imagine that I would put it in my shea butter mix, I always seal with this after I moisturize.

I would use it on my scalp when I feel it getting dry.

Or like you, use it in a DC, google it and see whats its best qualities and how it compares to other oils and use it like you would use them...

Orrrrrrrrr, lol, use it in a pre-poo.

I have never heard of mustard oil. that's new to me!!

It kinda does smell of mustard and it's got an overwhelming smell and I tend to sniff the oil or butter when I first open it but with this, I just was taken back with the smell!

I buy mustard oil at Indian grocery store. I use it alone for scalp massage, saturate hair, leave it on overnight. Next day I add moisturizing conditioner for at least an hour and wash out.

I do ayurvedic deep conditioning at least 2x per week (henna or amla/maka/brahmi pastes). I pre-oil hair with a combination of mustard, sesame and castor oil to counter drying effects of the powder.

I also use the combined oils on my scalp, edges and to seal ends. It is a good combination for dry hair or skin or an oil rinse. I buy the castor, mustard and sesame (gingelly) oils at the Indian grocer when I buy powders (amla, henna, neem).

The mustard oil is pungent but it doesn't bother me. YMMV
