Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Do any of you find that you get better results (aesthetically and/or health wise with less breakage) with dry styling? When I say dry styling, I mean, twisting, braiding, bantu knotting, or roller setting on dry hair.
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I like to style my hair when it is wet because it seems like it behaves better. Now that my hair is shorter I ONLY style it wet.
Which reminds me what do my TWA'ers do with their hair during the winter. I have been doing wash-n-gos but I have a cold right now so that really isn't good for me. Any tidbits?

I still have a TWA and I get better results on wet hair. I like the initial results but LOVE that it get bigger each day.
Luv for my TWA I have been wearing twistouts for the cold days. I also had some flat twist that I wore for a few days and then rocked them as a twist out. HTH!

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I haven't really had any success with dry styling yet. Even if I don't completetly wet my entire head I do use a spray bottle with water just about everyday. Now that it is cooler I have to find something that lasts dry. i know once before Terri's method worked wonders for me but it took my daughter and I 2 1/2 hrs to do it but it lasted the whole week and looked great everyday. I think I am going to try a roller set tomorrow, so we shall see.

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I definitley prefer dry styling on my daughters hair.
Less frizz, less shrinkage, I can get a better grip. If I am cornrowing on wet hair they will be VERY loose, lol. I don't know what it is, but with dry hair and the right product it always seems to turn out better than on wet hair.
I recently did a dry rollerset on my daughters hair, no heat used. I can't imagine doing it on wet hair, her hair would take forever to dry, lol. The results were not the best but it still turned out cute.

I'm really good with my hair being damp. It's not soaking wet but just lightly moist and I know how to deal with it, mostly because I used to be afraid of wetting my hair completely =[ Now I do wet styling and its great and all, but it takes soooo long for my hair to dry and sometimes I don't have time like that. But overall, I prefer damp
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
@curlyfilmchick, Yeah, I can work with damp too! I guess it depends on the style. Wet or damp for us....
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Usually it's just the shea butter mixed with coconut oil. When I did her big twists today (quick style) I used shea butter mixed w/ coconut oil and giovanni direct leave in. It was really easy to comb through her hair. Her hair previously had no product in and was in a loose ponytail.
For her rollerset I used the shea butter/coconut oil and ORS lock & twist gel. I read a little about the ORS lock & twist gel so I picked some up last week.

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
@curlyfilmchick, I did a bantu knot out on her hair over the summer (first time ever doing bantu knots) and if I remember correctly her hair was damp. The results were nice but I think I made the sections too big. I don't know...
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I like to rollerset on dry hair too. and bantu knots. but just about everything else wet. and even if its dry then I'm spraying some water/conditioner mix on it to make sure itll hold the style....

Yes, that is one of my first attempts [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I find that bantu knot outs can be unpredictable. I'm still trying to perfect them. When I did big sections they didn't work. medium came out really nice. Sometimes they work for me and sometimes they don't come out exactly the way I'd like. What products do you use on your daughter's hair?
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Oh, nice, nice!! Your knot out came out great! What did you use for it?
Our main product of choice is sheabutter mixed with coconut oil. lol Kind of simple. I'm still on the search for the right products. We use a variety of conditioners....

Thanks NikG20 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I do remember that my hair was dry and I dampened it with a spray bottle. I then section medium sections (but a tad smaller in the front) and added coconut oil, spray with DevaCare Set It Free and sealed with castor oil. I've experimented with using HH to set it and it worked ok, but not too much or it won't be dry all the way. Still on the search for products as well, that won't make the hair too wet
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Oh, nice! I have those products (besides castor oil) I'll have to try it next time. I loooooooove HH!!!! But I know what you mean about making the hair too wet/slippery....it's great for detangling though! lol
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
im still in twa mode so of course my hair is best when its wet. i think im gonna try to add some oil to it while its soppin wet vs leave in condish!

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Anyone have any pictures of the same style done on wet hair vs dry hair?
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I did two strand twists, wet & dry, the wet ones obviously shrunk up more and definitley had a lot of frizz.

here's the picture...two strand sister twists, wet vs dry
Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
I've only wet styled as I have not put heat on my hair since I BC'd in April and I do NOT want to comb through my dry curls.

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
Has anybody done dry styling while transitioning? I am just wondering because wet hair can be hard to work with.

Re: Dry Styling versus Wet Styling
YES, I have done rod sets on dry hair and I am an 8 month transitioner. It was ok. I did not find it any easier to work with, alot more breakage (have to be even more careful). But the result is great and you do not have to worry about drying time (I dont use heat at all).
