What products do you use to smooth your edges?

What are some products that you all use to smoothe your edges when bunning or wearing a ponytail? I've been using Cantu Shea Butter but I'm looking for something that does not contain glycerin or other damaging ingredients. I guess I'm looking for a more natural product.

Any suggestions???

I never bothered with my edges before, but Nikki did a blog post on it and I've tried it and it works: 6/28/2010 No Gel...No Brush...Sleek Edges?!I hope this link works. Basically, she used melted shea butter on her edges, added her scarf and in the morning, Voila! I did the same thing with both shea and regular oil (Sweet Almond and Grapeseed) and it works for me. Simple and effective. I didn't even realize I had that much "baby hair" at my hairline...it's always frizzy and flying away from my forehead so it was cool to see it appear all nicely slick without doing a thing.

I agree shea butter did the trick for me too. smooth it on add a scarf and it works magic, plus I love the smell.

I love castor oil and shea mixed, slap it on tie it down and good to go!

Since I decided to "go natural," and in search for the products that work for me, I began to use alot of products and thus, major buildup on the hair and scalp. So, I decided to use the least to achieve the most. I use pure aloe vera gel, tie a scarf around the edges, take my shower, and when I remove the scarf, I am ready to go. Smooth edges, moisturized hair, no bad side effect that creates a need for another product.

Eco Styler Gel, a brush and a scarf to really hold it down...

@naturalnolagirl1900- Nver thought about using my aloe vera gel...Love that stuff and am gonna have to try that...

lalee, my hair likes it alot. What my hair likes, I love. I don't know about you, but it shea is in the top 3 or 4 ingredients, my hair is not excited, what about you? I am following some hints my hair is giving me. Hopefully within the next month, I will have an answer. I will have to change my user name to detectivenola

I use Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey and wear a scarf for about 10 minutes. It works perfect every time!

Kim, I have realized something with my hair. I have many different products and I can use every last one of them effectively to slick my edges as long as I apply the scarf for about 10 minutes. I know this now because I am furiously trying to use things I otherwise probably will never use up. I love the aloe because there is no residue, build-up, and it doesn't interfere with anything else, but just trying to clean house. I reached this epiphany a couple of weeks ago. The scarf is key.

Hi! If my edges are well moisturized (with anything really) and I apply a satin scarf and some TIME, I can lay these suckers down!. I only need to resort to Eco Styler gel (green or clear) if I don't have much time.

i will live and die by curls pomade (Target $7). No scarf or brush necessary...

I saw this at Target and almost got it, but it looks like one of those pomades that hold for a while then get all greasy, like Let's Jam or Elasta QP Glaze...is it like that?

I just went to Target yesterday....no Curls Pomade to be had but I only get results with gel and a scarf! Perhaps I have to "train" my edges to lay down with pomade alone.....

hasnt been my experience at all with the pomade. for me it lays my edges down holds them all day and the hairs is still soft at the end of the day for restyling or twisting. no nasty stick to the scalp or flaky business

I use the Olive oil edge control, you can get it the cheapest at Sallys Beauty Supply. You can put a little oil with it to eliminate residue and white film...It's one of my staples.Im now able to do twists and upsdos without the use of gel. Sorry my pic isn't updated to show my hair growth and that its possible to have updates.

don't normally use products- but if i DO use them, it's eco-styler gel (clear) or IC fantasia gel when my hair is 80% dry...oh, and a toothbrush to evenly distribute the gel...

if i DON'T use products, I set my edges in a style that will stretch my hair. (i.e. braid in the front covering the edges or a flat-twist) and then i take down the edges and pin them up. that usually gets them pretty straight/slick

aloe vera gel seems to do a good job for me

I use Jane Carter nourish and shine which consists of shea butter, mango butter, and various vitamins for the hair.

I just started using ecostyler clear gel and it works like a charm.

For edges control I use Hicks Total Transformations "Edges" Pomade or Joie "My Gel". I am a witness that they are the real deal! Awesome results with a nice healthy shine. Great for when you need a controlled look to enhance a hairstyle.

I use edge control by ORS and wrap a scarf around my head at night.
