Greetings, Ladies!!
My hair journey started no different than most of you. My mother didn't really know how to do my hair so I, too, started this hair journey with none other than the jheri curl, that lasted from 1st-5th grade. The only reason I was able to get a relaxer in the first place is because I BEGGED her not to send me to middle school with a curl or my natural hair. To me, my hair was nappy and ugly and as far as I was concerned I didn't want any parts of it!!! When I started relaxing my hair is when the damage started. Damage from blow drying, flat ironing, hair glue, and gels made my hair damaged and very hard to manage.
I then started wearing braids, wigs, and sew-ins and during this time I basically adopted the idea that 'As long as I can buy it, I'm gone wear it!!' So I started neglecting the care of my own hair and pretty much continued to wear wigs and weaves for about 15 years.
The reason for change came last year. I experienced a very humbling experience when I had a hysterectomy. During my healing process, I gained a significant amount of weight. My self-esteem suffered and I honestly can say that I didn't like the woman that I had become.
So now we are here...1 year, 45 pounds, and a hysterectomy later. I am in the process of learning to love myself all over again. And not a societal love, where I feel good by society standards, but an all out live, TRUE love for myself. And I figured what better way to start with the rebuilding of my self-esteem, than start with the very thing that I felt plagued me my whole life, my hair!!
So to make a long story short, this really isn't just a journey of rebuilding my hair, this is the journey of rebuilding myself!! I thank you ladies for sharing this experience with me and I wish everyone that reads this blessings over your own journey!!!
Sincerely,
Ms. DivaT

Sooooooo, last night I tried my first set of bantu knots..Can we say DISASTER!!!! LOL I THINK I know what I did wrong, so maybe next time will be a great success!!!!
Today is a wash and go type day!! I went to Wal-Mart last night and basically 'bought out the bar' of conditioners and cremes...LOL I purchased my Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner (which I had been hearing such great things about up here, so I thought 'Why not??') and I also purchased a detangling comb and some cute little clips and gel headbands. I think I am going to go back and get some 'Totally Twisted' conditioner and check out Tar-jay's hair care aisle and see what they have to offer....*sigh* OH NO!! AM I TURNING INTO A PJ ALREADY?!?! IF SO..*shrug* Oh, well!!!

Thank ya, dahlin!! I used the HH shampoo and conditioner and I found that although it cleaned the h*** outta my hair, it didn't leave me with much curl definition, so I'm on to the next one!!!
As far as being a PJ, I already knew this was going to happen. You should have seen the number of gels, mousses, and tracts that I hoarded over the years!!!! LOL
