I have been the queen of have weave for years. I have been all natural under my weave for more than a year, planning to go wear natural hair. Just took the weave out a week ago and I don't know what to do now. Everything I try does not suit me. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] (according to me)

I think I need to start with a regimen and I need some guidance on styles for my hair type and length.

I love my natural hair [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and I don't want to relax again.Sad please help......

waiting patiently,

Hi k-k, I noticed we are close in age. Welcome to the natural world!

I would like to know a bit about your hair before suggesting a regimen.

Are the strands fine (thinner than a frayed piece of thread), medium or coarse (thicker than a frayed piece of thread)?
Does your hair "drink" up moisture laden products quickly?
Is your hair dense?

Also, what types of styles do you like to wear?

If you get a chance check out my CSJ and fotki. Both links may be found in my signature.

thanks for responding so quickly...yes i am 41 but i probably quit counting quite a few years ago. I decided to be as young as I feel. LOL

as far as my hair it is fine but not as fine as frayed thread, it takes on the appearance to be think when it is dry, but it's not thick at all. it's very soft but needs moisture.

I am not familiar with any natural styles. I tried the bantu knot-out last night, it didn't go over very well. I think I needed more drying time.....remember I just took my weave out last week and the stylist (which it was my first visit with her, I am new to Indianapolis 8 wks) flat ironed my hair for me bc I told her wanted to wear natural hair. the flat iron look made it look much too thin to my eyes bc I had just come from a full head of weave.

After that style last friday, I purchased kinky-curly and tried it on monday, i think it made my natural curly hair too curly, didn't like the curly look it was to juvenile, just didn't look grown up to me. And may it my hair length right now. But any advise would be essential, I don't want ot relax anymore.

Hi Kinky!

My hair is very fine as well and when I first went natural, I thought I looked like a 6 month old baby Smile The natural look for me also makes it look fuller. It's funny because when you said your knot-out didn't go well, neither did my first twist out, because my hair is so thin that it didn't fill out the way it should have and it just frizzed up. I am actually air drying my 2nd twist-out (did them smaller). Please pray about that one! LOL

I'd suggest you check out livecurlylivefree.com to see what type of hair you have in terms of porosity, texture etc. If your hair is overly porous and absorbs products quickly, you need to make sure protein is in your products. Too much moisture can backfire...at least that's what happens with my hair. I actually used coconut oil toady and I love it already. I can tell it's moisturized, but it's so light.

Good luck Sistah!

PS- I've become a huge fan of big earrings and headbands. These definitely take away the "juvenille" look.

What length is your hair?

If your hair is fine, protein may help. Popular items are Suave Naturals Coconut conditioner (co-wash, leave in, detangler), Giovanni Direct leave in conditioner and Giovanni Smooth as Silk (co-wash, detangler and DC). All these can usually be found in your local WalMart, Target or Vitamin Shoppe.

As far as styles, knowing your length will help.
