Gels for a TWA
I will be going to the bss tomorrow to pick up some raw shea butter for my newly natural hair and I would like to pick up some curl activator gel as well....any suggestions?
Re: Gels for a TWA
I've been using Kinky Curly Curling Custard for my TWA and my hair likes it. I use it with the Kimmaytube leave in conditioner receipe.

I wish i could afford KCCC but on my college budget...its not gonna happen. any substitutes or other gels that anybody has had success with?
Re: Gels for a TWA
Hmmm.... understandable. I've hear afroveda is good and I think that may be around $12 a jar. Other's have had success with Eco Styling Gel and I think that's like $3 a jar.
Maybe try Youtube. There are lot's of product reviews for different types of gels. Sorry I'm not much help.

Hey Ebbz,
For a college budget I would recommend Ecostyler but make sure you use a good leave-in underneath because it can dry crunchy. You mentioned curl activator, I used Long aid curl activator with my twa and its good just don't use too much because it can get a little greasy. I actually used the long aid under the Ecostyler and that's a good combination. You can get the Long Aid at the BSS or Walgreens. HTH

I use ecostyler the green olive oil kind and aloe vera gel. I mixed them a couple of times and I like using it that way best. I agree with KC about using a good leave-in underneath so that you won't have the cruchy feel.

Herbal Essence Gel is my back up gel to Smooth N Shine Gellation Extra Hold. Herbal sometimes leave a film and can NOT be used with other products that is why its my back up. The Smooth N Shine is light and allows me to seal in other butters etc. Both are reasonable Herbal I believe is under $5 and Smooth may be $7-10.

Target carries a few I like and have tried LA Sports Gel, HE Set Me Up Gel, la bella, Elasta Care Feels Like Silk Jel and Curls Goddess Glaze or Gel le c (sp?). You can likely get them all except the Curls line at a drugstore, WalMart or BSS.
Re: Gels for a TWA
Ladies, I got all of these suggestions after I came back from the store! lol I got IC Fantasia with Olive Oil, because my BSS didn't have the clear or olive oil EcoStyler, just the protein one. Smooth N Shine is what I was using before my hair felt a dry after it dried so I wanted to try something different. The Long Aid was a little more expensive than the Fantasia but I have a slight case of PJism so I will be trying it soon. I've heard good things about the Curls line as well but I don't how how it will work with my hair texture.

I know you mentioned that you are on a budget and can't afford the KKCC. I purchased the Knot Today and KKCC and have realized the Knot Today alone works well on my TWA. You may want to just try the Knot Today.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I second the Knot Today, I swear by that stuff. I use the Afroveda Pur Whipped Gelly, which is good if you want a light hold (smells like vanilla cake)--only downside, is waiting two weeks for it to ship because it's made to order. I used to use the IC Fantasia olive gel though, and it was great. I also used the EcoStyler gel (the pink one--has a hold of about 7?) for a pretty long time and was happy with it.

My bss carries the pink one so maybe I will try it. I've never heard anyone mention it until you did, so I didn't buy it.

Get the small container before you upgrade to the big one. I liked the pink because the hold wasn't as intense and I liked the smell better than the olive oil. (I'm picky with smells.)
Re: Gels for a TWA
thanks @MEGAFAITH
@LadyMika...I completely understand. I can't use EVOO because I can't take the smell. Same thing with castor oil
