I have seen many varied recipes, mainly on the long hair forum, I think. Do you use it only on wet hair? IF you use on dry hair, would you compare the holding qualities?
Kinky, tell me a little about this green tea spritz. Whats in the one you make and the ratios. Someone mentioned it about 2 days ago. I have been hearing a bit about green tea in hair and I keep seeing the word "drying" in many comments. Yesterday, I did a green tea rinse after my wash/condition routine and got a few tangles (Not normal for me.) I did rinse it out with cold water.
Hi NNG1900, thanks for the compliment! I am experimenting with different looks and trying to break out of the styling rut. Do you think that the red lip might be a bit much with the eyes and the hair? I wondered if I looked like I'd just come off some theatre show but I must say that at the time, I didn't care a bit!
I used the flax-aloe gel on dry hair, but I did get a sort of wet set because I'm quite heavy handed and my hair is fine, so the gel wet my hair if you know what I mean. Next weekend I'm going to try it on a WnG, so I'll let you know how that turned out.
I actually made a white-tea spritz, and that is not drying in the least! Check out my blog for the full details (saleaholic.blogspot.com).
Cheers!

Thank you and I so look forward to your upcoming report. I am going to experiment with a tea spritz. I will make it in addition to my regular spritz. I was a little hesitant because I experienced a few tangles on wash day when I did a green tea rinse. To be on the safe-side, I will add some marshmallow root I have to it to keep the tangles at bay.

Hey Wyldhoney! I have just finished reading thru your blog and first- you are hilarious. I love that you live on the island and wish I could some day too! So, are you going to show us pics of your hair on the flaxseed gel? I would love to take a gander. Thinking I might want to give it a go too!

Just popping in to say Bon fet Jounen Kweyol tout moun!!
Today is Jounen Kweyol - Creole Heritage Day. I am wearing my national costume to work today. Hairwise, I was excited to find that the front is now long enough to do two side buns with NO PINS!!! What a milestone!

Re: Wyldhoney - A....P...L!!!!!!
Sorry, I have no flaxseed gel results to post...a little storm that was supposed to hit us quickly and blow over Friday night suddenly turned into Category 1 hurricane Tomas and gave our little island a walloping.
Seriosuly - the south east of the country is a disaster area. 12 people are reported dead so far and many are missing. The area is only reachable by boat and everyone is trying their best to get the tourists out before food supplies run low.
Luckily I am safe, and so are my friends and family. I have not heard from many of my co-workers, who live in the devastated area. Power and phone service were restored to my community today, although there's no water and the road to the capital is still impassable.
Pray for my little islandfolks, and the others in the region who felt the force of Tomas' winds. My upside right now is that I cant get to work, so I have a few days downtime. I'll do some spring cleaning.

hey wyldhoney I do not know if you mentioned this before but where are you from? I am from St. Lucia and I noticed you wearing the national costume and from what you wrote about hurricane Tomas it sounds like you are talking about Soufriere. If you are it's nice to meet a fellow lucian.

Hair...UGH!!!! (Caution: major venting inside)
Hi Ladies,
My goodness ... has it really been so long since I abandoned you guys? I'm sorry - after the hurricane life has been so hectic with work etc, plus i have been in a serious hair rut since then. I just feel like my hair isn't responding well enough and i am super discouraged.
1) Damaged ends. I have been holding on to these ends since I started my healthy hair journey. I hate my shrinkage so much that I don't want to lose ANY length. The damage is creeping up my length so that now I have about 1.5 ins of ends to cut. I started with about 3/4" of damage. I'm getting so worked up about it that I sat in front of the mirror with scissors in hand, sobbing. I KNOW I need to cut, I'm just heartbroken about seeing all that hard work going into the trashcan.
2) Growth. Because of the damage, I'm not seeing the growth I expect. Because I'm not seeing growth, I'm getting discouraged and falling off the healthy hair bandwagon. My regimen is in tatters, my hair is dull, and tangles now are getting ripped/cut out instead of lovingly pulled apart by hand. I'm now in the hate stage of my love-hate relationship and I can't seem to get myself out of it.
3) Texture. I'm being driven crazy by my hair. I've cried so many tears over my unruly hair. I have two distinct curl patterns distributed evenly throughout my hair, a tight 4a-ish type coil, and a loose 3a-is type curl (these hairs look straight because they're not long enough to show their curl). This leads to major tangling, knotting and BREAKAGE. My hair also hates to clump, and so any style I do looks like a curly fro by day 2. I am frustrated beyond belief. Making it worse is my thin, fine strands (both in thickness AND density) so my protective styles look like a major fashion felony, with scalp everywhere. I'm at my wits' end.
4) Styling. Curly fro. Curly fro. No matter what I do with my hair, by day 2 it is a curly fro. My hair tangles when you sneeze on it and hates to clump. Couple that with some 75-80% shrinkage, my wash n go's are a disaster. Twistouts don't look right because there's too much shrinkage and not enough hang time. Braidouts are a disaster because no matter how much I oil my fingers they frizz up on the takedown. My signature style has become a curly fro birds' nest type thing, pinned half up. According to my mom 'you look best when your hair is wild'. Now wild hair is fine for a night of clubbing or whatever, but not so great when I want to look remotely sophisticated. I'm really at a loss hair. (sorry, had to be punny).
So looking into the new year, I realise I have to make some serious changes with my hair and my attitude towards it. I have to work on acceptance of my texture. I sometimes get so ANGRY with my sister, she has a head full of beautiful thick 4b hair - I'm super jealous of it and it would look AMAZING in twists but she's addicted to that relaxer. I'm jealous of people who can get their hair to HANG DOWN in a twistout instead of having a matted halo around their face.
Do I have to accept a life of frizzy afros and scalpy twists? Do I just have to accept that I will never have sleek hair? The thought of going through the rest of my life with this hair on my head is a depressing one. Do I have to resign myself to a life of TWA?
Y'all I am so over my hair. I really need some inspiration. Thanks for reading this edition of War & Peace. I didn't mean to type so much but I just had to get it out there.

Hi Sweet! Your hair looks beautiful as always. Congrats on BC#2! I'm heading to your page to find out your motivations etc, and to for my daily hair colour porn fix.
Yes we are at war, but I'm trying to get my head around my hair so that I can start 2011 on a good footing. I have made the decision to do the 1" trim, now I just have to gather up the courage to do it.

Hey Wyldhoney!!
Welcome back! I'm sorry you are not loving your hair right now.
1) Damaged Ends - I know it's hard for you but get rid of them. They are causing more damage to your hair
2) Growth - Pick a regimen and stick with it. One of the best ways to see growth is with a consistent regimen/products and patience with your hair. Stressing is not good for growth either. Once you get rid of the damage ends, be sure to baby your new ends.
3) Texture - This is one thing you can not change. You have to learn to work with each texture and make it work. Check out Youtube and see if you can find some other curlies with fine hair and see what styles they are doing.
4) Styling - Have you thought about trying different products to achieve your twistout/braidout? Look up Renny here on this forum. She has fine hair and gets nice twist outs. I'll send her over here.
I hope you can learn to love your hair again. Good luck on your new beginning with your hair.

Re: Wyldhoney - A....P...L!!!!!!
Lynnie,
Thank you for the pep talk. After my hair meltdown the other day, I sat down with my boyfriend and really vented about how my hair was making me feel. He was very sweet and supportive and told me how much he loves my hair, and admires me for my strength and perseverance in being natural in a world filled with perms.
We talked about my cut, and agreed to trim on Monday, after some intense deep conditioning, to save as much as possible. He doesn't like the idea of kinky twists or crochet braids, but is willing to put up for it for a while if I feel it's really necessary, so I'm still debating that.
In hair news, I discovered that shea butter is good for my hair, and I have also found a cheaper source for it ($100 for a pound of shea really wasn't working with my budget!). I also got a stick blender for Christmas so I'm looking forward to making some shealoe and cocoashea mixes.
I guess my hair will always be fine and flyaway, but I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I'll never be able to have a slick bun. Messy buns are easier anyway, right? That's what I'm wearing today:

Re: Wyldhoney - A....P...L!!!!!!
Hello Ladies! Happy New Year!
I hope that everyone had a great time over the holiday season, and is ready to face a new year fresh and without hesitation.
By the way, is it hesitation or laziness if you haven't taken down your Christmas tree as yet? I honestly like the pretty lights - I don't want to take mine down yet.
With the new year came new resolutions etc. Along with the obligatory "I must lose 20 pounds" was a new one for me: "Take care of my hair". So that's what I'm doing.
The first step to taking care of my hair is to accept my hair. As Lynnie said, texture is the one thing I can't change. So instead of fighting it, I will embrace it and try to rock it in all its wild, fluffy glory.
After my first wash of the New Year, I spent 6 hours today doing micro twists on my own hair. I'm super pleased with the results, although my butt hurts from sitting for so long.
Secondary resolutions:
Drink more water
More protective styling
Don't be afraid of big hair
I did a longer post with length pics on my blog. It's super late here so I'm just gonna pass out now. Later ladies.

Re: Wyldhoney - A....P...L!!!!!!
Hey WH, Happy New Years. I can totally identify with the love hate and war peace relationship with hair. I've been natural for over 10 years and went through the first couple of years getting use to it. Afterwards, I had to figure out what to use in my hair. Once it started getting longer, my hair stop liking the products I was using. In the summer, I can't use the same products I use in the winter, uggg. I've ripped and cut out knots and tangles and from winter neglect, my hair has fallen out, which is where I'm at today. I don't recall having a full head of hair for a whole year. I've found this site and am happy to say I have a renewed love for my hair. I've henna two weeks ago and my hair is so soft that the tangles and knots come out easier. I have less hair breakage and will give this henna, glossing, and herbal rinses about 2 months to see some results. If not, then I'll do my third bc, which I found was easy to manage So hang in there and let's continue to post our developments.

Great resolutions!!! Your mini twist came out really cute!!! How long do you plan to keep them in. The longest I've ever gone is about 11 days. If I can ever keep them in the full two weeks, that will be a great accomplishment for me.

Hi tangledmess,
Do you have any photos of your hair through the years? I'm glad to know that you're starting fresh and I hope that your regimen produces the results you're looking for! It's not an easy road but the results are worth it, I think! Keep me updated on your progress, won't you? I'd love to try a henna or henna gloss but I can't find any on my little island.
Lynnie,
I'm trying to take it simple for this year's resolutions. I can't change the world at once, but if I take it one day at a time I hope to build up good habits that are sustainable.
I'm hoping for 2 weeks but I'm not gonna beat myself up if they don't last that long. My hair fuzzes up really quickly and since I didn't use any gel I'm not sure how they will look as they age. If I can hit the 11 day mark I'll be happy! I'll try to keep them until at least next weekend.
Here's what they look like today - don't want any fragile ends rubbing on my collar!

Oh my god Sweet how did you know my tree is still up? I thought I cropped it out of the photos ...
Okay, so yesterday was the day I was supposed to take it down...I put the lights on one more time, sat there and admired it...it was too pretty to take down!
I'll attempt it again tonight but I ain't promising anything. I love my little tree!

Re: Wyldhoney - A....P...L!!!!!!
I feel so dumb - thought the tree had snuck into one of the photos...forgot that I had admitted it right there in my post
Today is the 2nd day of my mini twists and so far I love them. They're not very uniform, but I can see the potential.
I tried practicing some pinned updos but they came out looking...well, the less said about that the better. I realise that I look better with 'out' hair. So I rationalised that once my ends were up off my collar, I would be in a protective style.
So today I'm just rocking a headband. The back layer of my twists is pulled up, so it looks like my hair is shorter. Who would have thought that I'd be FAKING shorter hair! I'm thrilled. I think I'll be able to style my twists like my loose hair, just once I pin or tuck the back up so that it's not rubbing on my collar.
I need to start wearing hair accessories. I have a few flowers and lots of headbands but every time I put one on I just feel dumb and take it off 10 minutes later. But my hair is too plain!!

Hey WH, I have plenty of photos but need to read the instructions on how to post them. I will tell you in advance, this may take me some time. As for obtaining henna, there are plenty of websites that sell it. You can also use some of the hair recipes that are listed in some of these forums or on this site. By the way, love the do for today. I'm looking forward to when the back of my hair at the nape area goes so I can pin my hair up. Have you tried rolling your twist?
