Keratin hair treatments?
Hey ladies!
A few of my friends have talked about getting a keratin hair treatment to straighten their hair. They say that it adds shine, volume, and keeps hair from getting frizzy. I've never heard of this until recently.
My questions are:
What exactly does it do to your hair? Is it permanent? And has anyone with tighter curls/coils ever tried this treatment?

Re: Keratin hair treatments?
I did it right after I went fully natural (after transitioning in braids for 2 years). It loosened my curls (I have 4b hair) and made them more coils. Definitely didn't make them straight, but more manageable. I noticed the bounce and shine when my hair was blown out; not sure it was much different when I twisted.
It lasts about 3-6 months. Please make sure to go to a reputable place to get it put in and washed out though. I've read horror stories of people losing hair, b/c it wasn't done correctly.

Re: Keratin hair treatments?
Since I wear my hair in twist outs mainly, it all really blended together. I did notice the last time that I got my hair blown out (after 4 months of the keratin), my sides and front weren't nearly as straight as the first few times I got it blown out, which was annoying.
It'll depend on how you wear your hair, though. When I first got it, I thought I would be blowing out my hair more often, which is why I did it. I decided I liked playing around with the twists, so I didn't really benefit from it. Now that I'm tired of twists and want to blow out my hair more, I'll likely do it again since it really helped with that.

Re: Keratin hair treatments?
how much did it cost and how long did it take to do?
so your results lasted about 4 months?
I was thinking about straightening my hair for the winter months as I'm going to NC for school but then again I know nothing about changing seasons LOL
oh! if it snows and your hair is straightened does it get poofy like if it was raining?

Re: Keratin hair treatments?
It was spendy: $325 at my regular salon. It took about an hour (wash, sit under the dryer, flat iron). And then you have to go back 3 days later to get it washed out (I'm sure you can do this on your own, but like I said in an earlier post, I've heard horror stories of people's hair falling out b/c they just used any old shampoo to do that).
The middle to ends of my hair still have the results, but my hair has been growing fast, so it may have lasted longer otherwise. And snow/humdity can hit your hair and it stays straight! That was the best part. Now that I have the new growth and it's washed out a bit, I don't get that same effect.
Also, I think that cowashing as frequently as I do (2x a week) probably sped up how fast it rinsed out.
