Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Since I'm on the forum all the time (usually in the Curly Teens section or the Transitioning section) I decided to start my own Curl Street Journal. Hopefully I can get a lot of my questions answered this way because usually when I post a question, it goes unanswered or I only get one or two answers
This is actually my second time transitioning. I started in December the first time but I went back to the creamy crack in February of this year, because I wasn't inspired enough to take care of my hair the way that I needed to and the relaxer was the quickest solution. I started transitioning again in April. My last relaxer was April 13(I think) and when I put that relaxer in, I already knew it would be my last one.
The products I am using right now are:
Suave Naturals Fresh Mountain Strawberries
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Leavin In (just bought it so idk about the results yet)
Optimum Therapy Anti Breakage Shampoo by Softsheen Carson (looking for a new one, suggestions are welcome!)
Africa's Best Herbal Oil
Lustrasilk Shea Butter and Mango Cholesterol
Bronner Bros. Oil Moisturizer with Castor Oil and Aloe
Smooth and Shine Gellation Styling Gel with Aloe Vera (the clear one)
I don't have much new growth but the new growth in the middle is very unruly! I am not using any heat on my hair at all during my transition. I even left my blow drier and flat iron at home while I'm on campus for summer school, eliminating any temptation. I usually style my hair in a bun, twisted bantu knot out, and lately, since I have not perfected my braid out, a pinned up braid out (all done on damp hair). If i don't feel like washing my hair, I pull old styles into puffs or pony puffs until I co-wash again.
I'm excited and nervous about this journey. I've struggled with self esteem for a long time and I decided that the best way to get over that hurdle was to begin with the REAL AND NATURAL me.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
thanks!
Oh and I forgot to mention....I plan on transitioning until the end of the year & BC'ing either on Christmas or New Year's.
Ladies, if there are any products that you absolutely love please feel free to recommend. I love trying new products. I have a sample of shea butter coming in the mail that I won on twitter that I can't wait to try. I also want to try Suave Humectant Shampoo and Conditioner, HEHH and EcoStyler Gel.
I also need help with my braidouts, so if anyone can just give a brief rundown of their braidout method and what products or type of products they use, it would be greatly appreciated.

I love Suave Humectant conditioner, haven't tried the shampoo yet. I also love Hello Hydration conditioner. For leave in and moisture I use Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave in and Jojoba Oil on my Bantu knots and knot out and it leaves my hair so so soft.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Welcome!!! I won't be much help with braidouts but in regards to products, I would be completely lost without my Yes to Cucumbers conditioner ($8.99 at Target and if you're lucky enough to find some $3.99 at Ross) and my EVOO.

Are those the only two places you can get it? I'm in a smaller town here at school and the nearest Ross and Target are both 40 minutes away, so I can only get there every once in a while (no car). But we do have Sally's, Walgreen's, Rite Aid, Wal-Mart and a BSS.

Welcome Ebbez!
I'm a newbie too. I just started my journal today. I'm looking forward to traveling the road with you.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
@Renny, I will be checking out your journal, as well as some of the others.
I did a flat twist out, after a co-wash yesterday. This was my first attempt, hoping I would get a cute style for my date tonight with my boyfriend....
[img][/img]
As you can tell from the picture (if it shows up) I am not happy. One side was wavy and the other was tightly coiled. It was just a mess in my opinion. I bantu knotted the ends, and one fell last night and I actually like that better than the ones that stayed put. *sigh* Guess I'll have to try again next time.

Hey Ebbz,
One of my staple styles is the braidout and this is the way I did my hair through most of my transisition before my bc. I do mine by plaiting my hair. I usually use a leave-in and some type of butter product to help set the braid. You can use the shea butter you will be receiving to help when you're doing your braids. With this heat and humidity lately most of mine have been turning into fluffy fros .

Its being shipped to my home address so I can't wait to go home this weekend and try it! Do you do your braidouts on wet or dry hair?
Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
You're not happy, but it looks very cute in the picture. Better luck next time.
Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Thanks Renny. I've been playing with my hair alot lately and I think it may be time for a break. I'm going to pick up some shampoo today (either HEHH or Garnier Fructis) and shampoo and condition my hair and DC and wear it in a bun for the next few days. When my shea butter comes in I'll start my experimenting again...

I've heard some people have seen it at Walgreens or CVS. But it's not in Wal-Mart yet and I haven't seen it in any BSS I've been to in Texas, Florida, or NC lol You could try ordering it from target.com. If I couldn't get to it, i would totally order online bc I love it that much lol

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Yes to Carrots and Cucumbers - They have it in my Walgreens. I was tempted to buy it yesterday but then I realized, I've already purchased too much. If it's their system they can probably order it for you if it's not in stock.
Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
The YTC is 8.99 at Walgreens (looked it up online) so I might have to wait for a sale on that because that's a little out of my price range. They do have Garnier Fructis conditioners on sale 3/$10 if anybody uses it. I think I'll try the HEHH next and try to pick up some YTC the next time I'm in Ross.

I do my braidouts on wet/damp hair but its not soaking wet. You get better definition on wet/damp hair but you can see the length more if its done on dry hair.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
I agree a little pricey for a leave-in, especially since the bottle is so small. I always catch my Nexxus on 2 for 1 sales at Penney's for $15.00 and that's for a huge bottle.
I do plan to try it. I think most of what I'm using is pretty heavy. Heavy leave-in, heavy moisturizer. I need to balance that. But I'm new, there's time. I'll work it out.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Hopefully it will go on sale soon! So far the Garnier Fructis I bought is working fine. I'm still not too sure about because I've only used it twice. After a few different styles and few more weeks, I'll do a review on it.
I am VERY EXCITED right now! I was putting the finishing touches on my hair to go out tonight and I noticed my new growth in the front trying to make somewhat of an S pattern. I had never noticed this before and when I looked closer, I could see the line of demarcation. The front is starting to catch up with the middle...
Yayyyy! I feel like a kid on Christmas.

Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Yay! I have a good amount of new growth. Maybe 3 to 4 inches but I can't tell what kind of pattern I have. I'm so visually challenged. Good thing I can write.
Re: Ebbz-Let the fun begin!
Hi Ebbz, welcome!!!
I have seen Yes to Carrots and Yes to Cucumbers at Ross, but I favor Yes to Cucumbers right now. Either are great for transitioning and beyond.
If you can invest in a small bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, try heading to the international food section or visit a Latino or Asian store. In the local supermarket, I am pretty sure Goya has an inexpensive size. You can't go wrong with a little EVVO!!! If EVVO is too high, plain olive oil will do too. And a little goes a very long way so in the end, you'll benefit from even a small bottle.
