I came out today!
I'm new to the boards and transitioning. I decided if I'm going natural I'm going to announce it to the world, so I decided to wear a new afro puff ponytail today. Imagine if you can the biggest possible puff ever made. Honestly it's the size of a Baobab Tree. When I came out of the bathroom this morning, my 4 year-old said, "No, mommy, go back in the bathroom." He did not like the look. When I met my 18 year-old in the kitchen, he said, "Alright mom! That's the hotness." I decided since he was older to go with his opinion and rocked that fro all day. My coworkers were looking at me like I was crazy. I think I heard a little group of them joking about it, but I didn't care. I was the hotness and if I believe it. It's so. Yay! Rock it! Your 4 yr. old sounds like my 4 yr. old nephew. I had my fro out earlier this week and he said, "Auntie, your head looks a mess." LOL

I know the feeling about coworkers lol. I had wore flex rods last week and the curls decided to turn into a curly fro and my coworkers were joking with me saying is this your new look. I told them yes and get use to it you don't have to like it but I love it. Keep rocking your fro [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] because all that matters is what you like.

Thanks Princessstar. I will, because I know what it's about. Black women who aren't comfortable with natural hair. It's so sad. I mean, we all should be able to do what we want to do. It's our own people (especially the women my age) who hate seeing natural hair. It's self hatred.
Re: I came out today!
so true rather embrace what they have they run away from it trying to hide behind something that's not truly their own hair pattern.

Re: I came out today!
@ Renny Good for you! In 10th and 11th grade I rocked puffs exclusively. In pictures with all my friends you would see perm perm perm perm... and a gigantic poof LOL. I loved standing out though and my puff was like my defining feature
Good luck, ignore the haters and make sure you keep that puff moisturized!

LOL@ the description of the puff. Hey, do YOU as Russel Simmons says Besides, after so long people will forget what you looked like permed. LOL!
Re: I came out today!
@ Muz the quote by Russel Simmons: so true. i've had to go through a process to get to that point but now that I'm here I'm never turning back
@ Renny wow I didn't even realize that you were transitioning! You must have gotten a lot of new growth from last year to be rockin a puff!

ooooh. I bet it still looked cute though
Show pics pleasee
the biggest thing if you're going to wear the puffpiece (lol) is to keeep your natural and relaxed ends moisturized. Your hair needs moisture (water) and a sealant (an oil like EVOO or shea butter) to keep the moisture in. I had to learn the hard way that my hair needs both, cause one or the other made my hair either dry or greasy O.o

Re: I came out today!
Krissy,
Thanks for the information. I'm moisturing my hair heavily and loving it. I found a Youtube video that Sultry1231 did about moisturing and I'm following that regimen twice a week (I'm shampooing on the first and cowashing on the 2nd round). I'm using lots of moisturizer and oils - coconut, jojoba and castor oil. I'm going to get some rosemary and EVOO today and I love my shea butter plus cream from Organics.
A few nights a week I'm sleeping with baggie with my leave-in and conditioner and oils. Spraying at work - water, glycerin and some conditioner.
It's all about moisture for me. My hair was dry as a 100 year-old bone and damaged from lack of care when I had braids so I think I'm just going to do wash and go's until winter. Some twist outs when I get bored. By then my hair should be healthy enough to braid and protect through the winter. Once the braids come out I should be ready to do the big chop in the spring.
Can you tell I'm excited? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My best product finds so far are the Taliah Waajd Protective Mist Bodifier and my Organics Shea Butter Plus.
Here's a link to the video if anyone is interested:
