Hair coming out????
I've been natural for 6 months. About two - three weeks ago my hair started shredding and breaking off. I usually co-wash and dc about once a week and wear twist outs. I retwist with shea butter every night wear a satin scarf. I henna with body quality art once every two weeks. My ends started feeling really ruff, so I cut them thinking that my help. I also did a deep cond. with Govanni Deep Treatment. I am at a lost as to why my hair all of sudden start coming out. Please help any ideas or suggestions.
Re: Hair coming out????
perhaps you should consider doing the henna less frequently??? you may need to a protein treatment, maybe??? if you ends were feeling rough maybe it a moisture issue, that usually is the culprit if my hair feels rough!!! these issues are a great jump off point, in revising your regimen to prevent further damage!!

@ daretobcurly, does the giovanni deep conditioner have protein in it? If it does maybe you are getting too much protein. Try doing some moisturizing deep conditioners without the protein. If your hair likes oil do a hot oil treatment with extra virgin olive oil.HTH!

I agree with Raina - check and see if you have deep conditioner has protein and also try not to wash your hair so much in the winter...the air is dry and harsh and remember only water adds moisture...oils and butters seal in the water so you should try and spray your hair with water everyday. EVVO is excellent and is the only oil that penetrates the hair shaft! I hope this helps!

The Giovanni does have soy protein in it so it may be too much to henna and use the giovanni

Okay!! I would say ease up on the henna and dc...remember the hair is made of 95% protein...so you have to see how protein works for your hair...that might be it!
Re: Hair coming out????
Thanks for all the great responses. Yeah the Giovanni has whey protein. So I'm not gonna to henna for a few months and just dc with aubreys or something without protein. I live in FL so its not really that cold here, we have out spells. I hope it resolves soon or im not going to have any hair (I already have a TWA)
Re: Hair coming out????
this has happened to me too. recently. i'm wondering if i should cut it all short again. i don't wanna though - a part of me just wants to let it grow in... but one side is shorter than the other and the back is WAY shorter than the front. this just started happening. i am 4 months into being natural.
i'll take the suggestions above and let you all know how it turns out.
should i cut again?

Re: Hair coming out????
Has anything changed in your regimen within the last month? Introduced your hair to something new? If you did, that may be the culprit.

I have been experiencing the same thing, I think that it is an issue of understanding the delicate protein - moisture balance with our hair. It seems that what works for one person (even with the same hair type), does not work for another.
I am going to create my own all natural conditioners and treatments, so that I know exactly what is going into each product, until I get the breakage under control.
