Transitioning with shorter hair
Hello ladies
My name is Dana. My last relaxer was 11/12/09. Decided to transition because I was sick of the flat limp hair. I have always worn twistouts with my relaxed hair so I figured I can get that same look just without going through the chemical torture every six weeks. Plus I've always wanted "Joan Clayton's" hair lol. I was a little nervous at first to discuss this with my husband because of course he loves long flowing hair. When we met my hair was to the middle of my back. After I had our daughter I cut it chin length which he wasn't thrilled about. But I brought him here to the site and he totally understood and has been fully supportive from day 1. Which brings me to my dilemma. I cut my hair last week and now need help! I was tempted to just BC but I really didn't have much new growth, maybe 1/4 inch. Not sure what to do with it now since it's so short. Since it's pretty short now, I have decided to make it through the winter and then BC in the spring. But until then can you all give me some style ideas that I can try without putting heat to it.

This is a flat twist out I did prior to cutting my hair.

Love th new cut and your daughter is a cutie!!!
With your hair at this length, I honestly dont know what styles you could try but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Re: Transitioning with shorter hair
Hope I can help!
Im also transitioning from a short cut and my first protective style were micro braids. Not sure of your current length but you may want to continue to have ti flat ironed until you decide to BC or, just go ahead and BC now. I cut mine a bit shorter than yours July 2009 and continued to relax until October. November I had enough NG for braids and wore those for 8 weeks.
What about wigs?

Thx Hair2ME, btw...I watched your youtube vid yesterday, very nice. ok....I originally wanted to get twists so maybe I will wait for the back to grow out more cause it's tapered and just get it twisted. Oh yeah! forgot all about wigs lol. That's a great idea!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

If you do decide to flat iron be very careful. You dont want to have heat damage. I've seen it happen too many times before.

Ok...I will definitely be careful with the heat. .I am thinking about doing a straw set tomorrow or maybe really small perm rods. Kinda scared of how it will turn out though. if it turns out ok then maybe that can be my staple until I BC. I will post pics if I do.

I think a straw set or rod set would be cute. I would love to see pics if you do it.
