What is waist lenth??

I hear so many contradicting views on what waist length is really considered? I'm having issues classifying my hair length too! Can someone PLEASE help me with this?? Check out my blogspot for pics....

I would say your hair is bra strap length, but your bra does go around your waist so Im not too sure. I think when people say waist length they really mean hip length.

Okay, that's what I was thinking too...it's actually an inch below my bra strap right now..my hair grows about 1/2 an inch to an inch a month. My goal is elbow length, which I guess you could consider it hip length...

I doubt my hair would ever get that long, but I dont like I'd let my hair get longer than bra strap length. Anything beyond that is just excessive.

Thanks for the compliment! I've been natural for almost 5 years (July 2010) but I never did a big chop so I cut out my relaxer as I went...I was totally relaxer free in 06/07....Oh and thanks for that chart!!!

Mitchellzee, your hair is gorgeous. Is that a twist out in your avatar. A little more length and I can attempt a style like that.

@adiaha--In my avatar pic I was trying out a wash and go where I did aloe vera gel with olive oil. It was a little oily for me but my hair was more stretched than when I do gel or conditioner. Yay, New Orleans..I went to school in Shreveport

I keep hearing people be so afraid of crazy long natural hair. Just yesterday, someone with long but relaxed hair kept wondering aloud what a nightmare it would be if her hair was natural. To me, I am looking forward to that -- amazing length and natural texture.

I'm beginning to realize that since the growth comes a little at a time..It's possible I'll just get used to maintaining it. I'm also guessing my texture will behave differently when it has more weight. I can't wait to see styles like the "twist-n-curl" or "bantu knot-outs" on my long hair.

Is it just me or did anyone else see that "classic" hair is longer than talibone length. How is it classic? Most people with straight hair don't even have hair that long. There we go with the beauty standards again...Things that make you go hmmmmm.... I'm just saying...

when you determine the length are you going based on "stretched out/straightened" hair or you hair in it natural curly state?

My hair is hip length when stretched but when I wet it and get my curls back it only is sl. Shrinkage is crazy. But I love it curly cause it is easier to manage withe my twist outs and bantu knots. When it is straight it gets caught in everything from seat belts to car windows.which is why when it is straight I rock it in a bun. Until I found these forums that have helped me manage my curly hair. Because I had the same fear of not being able to handle my hair in it natural state.

npmoore04 How long have you been natural? I think your my inspiration for hair growth.

Looking at your pics you are bra strap length. Just remember waist length looks different on everyone. Especially if your torso is short or long.

With my hair, I think anything beyong BSL will be really hard to manage for me...
