In need of a big sis badly........
I BC'd last week on the 11th and I'm still getting used to my "new do". I could really use some help on ways to keep my hair healthy and curly.....
Re: In need of a big sis badly........

Re: In need of a big sis badly........
well just yesterday I did a DC with the HE HH.then I put in the Wild Growth Hair Oil to leave in over night. In the morning I'd use this mix I put together in a spray bottle(it has Garnier Fructis leave-in,EVOO,Green Tea and Peppermint Oil) or I'd use plain water and peppermint oil. sometimes I'd use the shea butter, but I keep forgetting I have it.I only co-wash when my hair is dry.is there something else I should be doing?
Re: In need of a big sis badly........
Most of the products you are currently using contain ingredients that block moisture from your hair. The first thing is getting products that will help moisturize your hair. Could you list the ingredients of the Wild Growth Oil? If I remember correctly, that one has some no-nos as well.

You'll need a good, non-silicone clarifying shampoo to remove the build up on your hair and start fresh. Clarifying shampoos remove build up left behind by gels, pomades, etc. The main difference is that a clarifying shampoo has a higher acid content and as such should only be used once every 4-6 weeks. I clarify once a month.
You need to eliminate things that will suffocate and dry out your hair (any products containing silicones, mineral oil, petrolatum).
What silicones do is coat the hair and give it a silky feel, fight frizzies, smooth look. The problem is that is does not allow moisture to penetrate to the hair, which results in dryness and/or breakage. Also, certain silicones (non-soluable) do not wash out with water, a sulfate shampoo must be used. Mineral oil/petrolatum act like saran wrap on the hair, preventing moisture from reaching it.

One question, would you rather buy your products in the drugstore/beauty supply, or do you ind ordering? Also, is there a price range that you would like to stay in? I ask because that will help in deciding what products to recommend for you.

Re: In need of a big sis badly........
the wild growth oil has olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, ergocalciferol (vitamin D),choline, inositol, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, natural color, fragrance. I also ordered some 50/50 and aloe vera gel. everything I bought or ordered I seen great reviews about it on this site. I hope I didn't waste my money!
Re: In need of a big sis badly........
I buy from the store and order off line. and I won't buy anything over $30.00. hope I'm not being cheap lol...
Re: In need of a big sis badly........
The Wild Grown Oil is Ok...I don't recommend the Heral Essences or the Garnier. They contain silicones which block moisture from the hair. If by 50/50 you mean the Giovanni Organics line...that is a very good one. The Giovanni 50:50 Hydrating/Calming conditioner I found left my hair the softest. Aloe vera gel is also a good moisturizer and works for hold. An excellent conditioner is Coconut Sublime by Curls. They also have a cleansing creme that is thicker than most conditioners! (curls.biz)
What you could do to start is is use Giovanni's Organics 50:50 hydrating/calming conditioner (drug store) and Taliah Waajid's Protective Mist Bodifier (ethnic beauty supply), raw (unprocessed) coconut oil, and raw shea butter, and raw honey. You should cowash (wash as you would with shampoo, just use conditioner. For your final rinse, use cold water. That smooths the cuticle. I would suggest cowashing at least once a week. I used to cowash everyday, but you can see how often your hair prefers. As you hair gets longer, detangle your hair in the shower only (with conditioner in it or under the flow of water) with a wide tooth comb.
Once a week take the 50:50 conditioner, add some coconut oil and raw honey. Apply heavily to your hair, put on a plastic cap, cover with a terrycloth turban and leave overnight. Rinse the next day with cold water.
After each cowash spritz with the Protective Bodifier. Emulsify some shea butter mixed with some coconut oil in your palms. Apply this all over the head after spritzing with the Protective Bodifier. The Protective Bodifier and shea butter/coconut oil is the moisturizing/sealing process. Do this morning and night, every day. Tie your hair up each night without fail.
If you follow a hair care plan consistently, you will start to see postive changes in your hair.
My biggest hair care secret....treat it like it's severely damaged!! With that in mind I 1) use conditioners and deep treatments as leave ins & 2) do overnight deep conditioning treatments instead of w/heat. If you saw the kinds of products I used, you would think I had a different hair type that was extremely dry, brittle, and breaking left and right!

You have some great suggestions. So you stick to the cg method pretty much? I've been staying away from the cones and mineral oil and all that bad stuff. I think I'll have to try that deep conditioner over night; it's a really good idea. Thanks.

thanks so much Blondie! now I feel bad that I bought all the wrong products.that was money wasted! I'll have to wait to buy the Giovanni condish.and I'll write down the site that you posted.
Re: In need of a big sis badly........
Dont feel bad, when I started, I ended up with only 1 or 2 products, everything else was a toss! It's a learning experience!

You can get the Giovanni at Walmart, Target, drug stores, etc. Also, I think the Buttery Soy Creme would be good for you. (My Honey Child)
