Re: Winter Bun Challenge
hey I would also like to do a bun challenge....but what kind of buns could I do? because I have hair just above my shoulders and my wet buns don't really look that great. Do the twist-out buns also count?

I went to the beauty supply store and bought a phony bun and also the doughnut buns that you slip through your pony tail and fan the hair over because my hair isn't long enough to do one on my own. But any kind of bun or updo that doesn't expose the length of your hair counts!

Re: Winter Bun Challenge
Hmmm, sounds interesting! I am tired of bantu-knot outs, and I don't really like twist-outs that much (I'm trying the twistncurls now). How much was the bun at the beauty supply store? I'm on a serious budget. I can do my actual hair in a bun that looks half-way decent, but it takes a lot of manipulation, so if I have a way to do it without all of that manipulation I'm golden [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Muz: Trust me I'm on a serious budget myself! The phony but was $7.99 but the dougnut one was only $1.99! The doughnut is the one I use the most.

Re: Winter Bun Challenge
Hi, everybody!
I've been reading curlynikki for months now, but this is my first time writing on a board. I'm interested in the winter bun challenge as well. I am about 4 1/2 months into my transition. It hasn't been difficult managing the two textures, but since I exercise a fair amount, I just started bunning since I end up co-washing several times a week. I'm hoping this will protect my hair from the wind and cold and keep me from freezing my butt off when I got out with wet hair [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Winter Bun Challenge
Okay, so I got a couple of buns today, I have a question, is there a way to make them less shiny? I mean, they are clearly not my hair, but I'd rather it not be QUITE so obvious. . .
Re: Winter Bun Challenge
I'm not transitioning but I am on my own little bun challenge this fall/winter.
Re: Winter Bun Challenge
Wow, I wish I saw this before I did my hair last night. Well I may go on the bun or wig challenge afterwards. We will see. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
But here is a tip: saturate your ends in the oil of your choice (castor, EVOO) and baggie the ends with a plasctic bag (like a lunch or snack plastic bag depending on your length). Heck you can saturate and baggie the whole ponytail and wear the fake bun or ponytail over it. This preserves your ends. Do it for up to 1 week then wash and do it all over again.
And be careful with your edges in this challenge.
