Relaxed hair we had a good run...goodbye.
So tomorrow I am BCing!! I've had a range of emotions leading up to it but I am prepared to do it. I'm so excited, nervous, anxious all at the same time. So I decided to wash, condition and deep condition my hair because its been over a week since I've done that due to finals and directing my first film. (film student) As I was braiding it up there was a surge of not so much sadness but the feeling when you know someone is going to leave you for a LONG time and you will sorta miss them even though they have to go. It feels like a marriage of 15 years finally reaching a divorce and coming to a agreement to part our ways. (Or a bf of two years..however) That is the best I can explain it. Its when you know it wasn't a healthy relationship yet you still remember all the fun times you had kind of a thing. This is not swaying my decision but it feels so final. At least for me the changing of my hair has always shown a internal change in me. As I am now 23 there are so many things I've changed about my life and learned about myself and am truly comfortable with me and since transitioning I feel like I'm sorta finding me and stepping out the box doing this makes me want to try new things as a few I have already implemented. I guess my question over this LONG spiel when you big chopped did this every happen to you?? Or am I nuts? (which is likely )

My hair was very short so it wasn't as big of a deal for me. I just chopped the relaxed ends of and that was it. But GoodLUCK tomorrow!

i do think that cutting my hair, while i didnt realize it at the time, represented a change for me. it showed that i was at the point in my life where i was done trying to look a certain way and fulfill the image of what i thought once it meant to look...
professional
studious
prepared
clean-cut, etc.
i've wanted a daring, short cut my entire life (my longing started when I was about 9 or 10) but always maintained long to medium length hair. I held onto the length because that's what everyone told me to do. I'd always admired natural hair, but kept up with relaxers because that's what "we do." For me the BC showed me that I was ready to step out on my own and make my own decisions according to what fit me best. I didn't miss my relaxed hair or the length at all, it was a relief.
