SHEDDING!!!!!!
ok ive noticed that my hair as been shedding A LOT more when i detangle in the shower. ive always had a couple strands but not like this i know loosing a few strands is normal. but i know something isnt right. i colored my hair about a month ago. ive had color before with no problems. never had a relaxer...so i figured as long as i conditioner my hair on the regular it should be ok. ive also noticed my ends are JACKED! i dont seal on the regular but im working on it...ive read/watched methods for effective trimming but ive been so lazy lately (graduation is June) its been crunch time with school and etc. im curious about protein treatments. not sure how it will work and the do' and dont's. any suggestions is GREATLY appreciated!
TIA!
TIA!
Re: SHEDDING!!!!!!
Are you doing any protein treatments? When you color your hair and/or you experience breakage and shedding, it could be from a lack of protein - especially since you're making sure you're conditioning it...

Re: SHEDDING!!!!!!
Did you check your strands to see if there was a white bulb attached to the shed hair? This could be a normal shedding cycle where you are shedding more than usual. Also if you are coloring your hair you want to make sure you are deep conditioning your hair with a moisturizing deep conditioner and a protein deep conditioner. If your ends are split you may want to trim them to prevent further damage.
Re: SHEDDING!!!!!!
i deep condition once a week...and co-wash 2-3/week (as needed) ive never done a protein treatment before. i wanted to try aphogee..i heard good things but i also heard it could be kinda harsh. is there a more natural alernative?
how do you know if a product has protein in it?

Lol, when you comb your hair or are detangling if you look at the shed hair there is usually a white bulb attached on one end which means this is shed hair which is normal. If its not it may indicate breakage. Most conditioners if they have protein in it it may say keratin, silk protein, soy protein. I'm trying to think off the top of my head so I can't remember all of the different types of protein. The conditioner may also say strengthening on the bottle also to indicate that it has some type of protein in it.

I've tried Aphogee on my hair and it worked really well. But about a month or so after (my hair was in twists for 4weeks) I did notice some breakage in my crown area. Not sure if it was the aphogee but i never noticed breakage before then. The only difference in my regimen was that I henna'ed about 3 weeks prior.

Re: SHEDDING!!!!!!
I've used Aphogee too. It really helped me bring my hair back from the brink, lol. If you're really on the fence about using the 2 Step you can try the 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor. Its a once weekly treatment and I like that too. (I have kinda scared myself away from the 2 Step but I am considering giving it another go soon.) The only natural protein treatment I am familiar with is mixing an egg with a favorite conditioner. Works pretty good as long as there's no heat involved, lol.

Re: SHEDDING!!!!!!
This is a protein treatment I use on a bi-weekly basis, every week in the winter. It had done wonders on my hair and I really recommended. Someone posted it from a book I don't remember whose but I like, it promotes no special products, you can get everything on the grown and its low cost. I make my with the 32oz Aubrey Organics GCP so I don't have to mix often, then I sit under a hair steamer
Mix these ingredients together:
1 32 oz. bottle of protein conditioner (your choice what protein condtioner you use! )
>32 oz conditioner (Any brand that emphasizes that it has protein!!!)
6 oz coconut oil
3 oz olive oil
.5-1 oz (personal preference) peppermint oil (must be real essential oil)
For those who can't find 32 oz protein conditoners and can only find 15, 18 or 20 oz bottles, you could try;
1 bottle of protein conditioner
3 oz of coconut oil
1.5 oz of olive oil
.5-1 oz of peppermint oil (must be real essential oil)
