Cute transitioning styles? Empty Cute transitioning styles?

Post by aprilj90 18th November 2010, 12:22 pm

Hey guys!

So I'm wondering, what styles do you wear that you absolutely love? And how do you do them?

I'm looking for a style that I can wear out in public lol and when taken down, will give me either a twist out or braid out effect. But I don't really like the straight back corn rowed look. Any suggestions?

Comments appreciated

Have you tried any roller sets? Depending on the size of the rollers you could get a twist out effect. Using curlformers is another option.

I really didn't want to use rollers or anything. I'm thinking about a twists but I just don't know how to transform it into a nice style.

Some women are pinning them up as an up do. Have you checked out You Tube?

I do about 8 braids or twists(mostly twists) take the two front ones and pin them back for a headband look so i dont look so juvenile...then 2 or 3 days later i take them out

Check out my blog! I'd post some pics but I'm at work. I'm about 10 months into my transition. I found a cool way of giving myself bangs, a loose flat twist. btw, it took me forever to figure out how to flat twist, but if you check out my most recent blog post you can see what I've been doing. I untwisted just my bang last night and the flast twists gave me the nicest spiral curl. Try it! Smile

I would recommend that you check out youtube. There are TONS of cute and different hair styles to experiment with. For awhile I did mostly braid out and twist outs, both which I absolutely LOVED. Now that I am in my 5th month of transition, pressed for time due to grad school and challenged with the sudden cold/drying weather, I've been sticking to protective styles with props such as cute hats from Target, colorful hair clips, pins, bands, whatever... Checkout some of the videos then put your own twist to it.

I know you didn't specifically ask for protective styles but I've recently decided to give my hair a break (not on purpose, it was finals week) and have been experimenting with different types of buns. I think I hit the jackpot last week though when i made a (sexy) high bun.

I did a bantu knot out and wore it for a day but then i smoothed my hair up with water and jamaican black castor oil into a high pony. Slept with a satin scarf and in the morning woke up to perfect hair Smile

FYI: Because my hair was in bantu knots before I could easily take my hair down and have an "out" look. I don't really plan on doing that too much because I'm thrilled to find a protective style that doesn't make me look like a boy cheers

Hey April! I wear my hair in twists for 4-5 days at a time covered by a scarf and hat b/c its been cold here. When I take them out they look so cute! I put the twists in on wash day and keep the ends in rollers for at least a day. I use very tiny rollers so the curl holds for a while. Like some of the other girls suggested, you may want to pin the twists up until you're ready to take them out. Mine usually come out something like this (Sorry, I was doing a length check for a challenge):

Hmmm what I've been doing (when I'm not lazy lol) is flat twisting over night and then wearing it out.

APL is good lol. I have a tendency to cut my hair once it passes my shoulder blades but the idea of growing my hair out is growing on me afro

I straightened my hair awhile back and when my mom saw it she shook her head and said, "think how long it would be if you just permed it" lol the thing is when my hair was permed it never grew past my shoulders...

I know this thread is kinda old, but when I was transitioning, I straightened for a year. After my first year, I wore twist outs and used straws to curl my ends...it worked great...

Hey.. i know you were looking for something you could wear out.. i typically do my hair on homework days which are wendsdays and saturdays because I don't work on those days. so if you want to try this do it on a day that you don't have any where to go... anyway... i usually try a twist and curl out.. i wash condition deep condition my hair and then when its just damp i apply leave in conditioner and twist my hair .. i take those twist and using perm rods i curl them up to the root.. pinning my roots down at the root.. It makes my hair look short the first day (my hair usually just hits my shoulders and is layered) but after that its a cute curly style..
