4c Hair Help Empty 4c Hair Help

Post by natural918 11th February 2011, 3:41 pm

Okay, I need all my REAL 4c sistahs to help me with this one!

I BC'd 3 weeks ago and I need some help. How do you get your hair to look curly w/o applying all that "gunk" to it? I see videos and the people say they are 4c's, but it is highly apparent that they are not a 4c. Or maybe I'm a 4Z!

What product(s) are good for this texture of hair to make it curly? I don't want to apply all that Eco Gel...gel activator....etc. I want SOFT hair after the product...NOT hard hair! Pleeez help me!

THANK YOU!!!

I used that S curl spray in the beginning of my journey. Pretty light

I can't answer the curl question, but I used Sta Sof Fro to make my hair softer when I first BCed. Sometimes hair is hard (mine was like a brillo pad for a month or two) when first BCed. The hard hair usually grows out eventually. I don't think there's any product that will make your hair curl if it is not meant to.

Curl enhancing products can only "curl" a pattern that already exists. If after washing/wetting your hair and you have waves or coils/ringlets then you can achieve a curly look with a curl enhancing product.

If you are a "4z" then there isn't a product that will give you curls/coils. They have to already exist. Products will only enhance what you already have.

I totally agree with all the ladies above...its and expensive lesson to learn (trust me I know No ). There's not going to be a miracle product...better to embrace your hair's natural pattern and make sure it stays moisturized

Hi Natural918- I am 4c and NOTHING curls MY hair simply because the products don't find any "curls" to enhance...LOL...

But that has been MY experience...I stopped trying after my third month as a natural...

I have the 4c hair type and to get my hair semi curly, I use Wet n Wavy Creme Moist. It's definitely not the best curling product ( especially for 4c hair) but it's inexpensive and you could find it at probably any beauty supply store. I hope this helps!

I agree with every one as well and it took me awhile to notice. ECO Styler gel is ok but I don't want to stick to this because I hate having my hair hard and dry at times. Mostly giovanni's conditioner and water plus oil ... if it's not some type of gel then nothing else works for me ... when I first BC'd I used the curl enhancing smoothie .... to me you have to just make your own patterns by using twists, coils and then twisting and coiling the hair out to get some type of curl. Right now, all I can do it rock a fro ....

This was when I BC'd with Shea Moisture's Curl Enchancing Smoothie my wash and go day - it did a little something back then but it does nothing for me now:

With Darcy's Botanicals Curling Gel ... applied while taking my box braids out so it helped with the curl definition part: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wash & Go with ECO Styler Gel w/ Olive ... I applied giovanni's leave in before with some oils: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

and my default is with my hair blow dried and kinda sorta straighten lol ... but while applying the oil and butter I twisted my hair and that default is my results. I couldn't get my hair to lay down the way I wanted since I didn't have a real flat iron but I am going to wait a few more months before I do it again to see if it makes a difference.

Anyway, I feel where you are coming from. I have been buying and buying... I guess I am a 4z and then again people tell me that the color in my hair can cause my hair not to be so defined so right now I am just thinking about leaving color alone period and seeing if it will not only make a difference but also get my natural color back.

I will be watching this post because you've asked the question I've always wanted the answer to and I'm sure theres no right or wrong answer. Every experience is different.

I hope this helped.

I've been looking into " ShidaNatural's Define & Hold Curl Cream Gel using the Shingling/Section-by-Section method" because it seems to work well with 4 type hair... all types mainly but it's not inexpensive ...I usually just watch videos on you tube of people with 4 type hair before I purchase now to control myself some what.

i agree with everyone's comments. i have 4 type hair (i don't know which subcategory). i gave up two summers ago when my hair was alot shorter and i started on my hhj. i started experimenting with kinky curly gel. no definition what so ever. maybe am wrong, but i do notice that the longer the hair, the more ur hair has a more noticeable curly/wavy pattern when trying to achieve the look with certain products.
