Hey Tye. Congrats on the BC!!! YAY!!!
Try not to compare your hair to others. Latoya's hair is gorgeous but you may not have the same hair type. Even if it may look the same (hard to tell cuz your hair is shorter) it may not act the same.

One key thing is to make sure you moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!! You may notice that since you BCd your hair seems dryer. I don't know why but a lot of ladies have said they experienced that. Once you moisturize, whether it's with plain old water or missjessie's or whatever, make sure you seal all that moisture in with an oil, such as coconut oil, evoo, jojoba oil. or even a shea butter.

Hope that helps, and welcome to CN. You'll love it here.

Hello Tye, congrats on your BC....I'm new as well. I became totally natural Nov 6, 2010. I transitioned for 11 months. Definitely agree with misskris, moisture is key!!! I like to use pure shea butter on my ends. I also just tried this product called Shea Moisture Curl Enhancer Smoothie to use on my twist. I can't tell if it defined my curls because I used it with Loc it up Gel....i'm going to try this weekend by itself & see what happens. We all are in this 2gether!!! Smile

Congratulations on your big chop. I never chopped, I just transitioned. I image it must be an exciting experience for you. The only advice I can give is,set boundaries on shopping. If you want to try new products, finish the old ones first! Lol. Thats my little finance advice for 2011. Good luck, your chop is gorgeous.

Congrats on the BC i wish i had your courage Smile still transition i will say the same as everyone and i learned throughout my transition MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE being that your hair is super short you can wet it daily and use any oil or butter of your choice to seal it such as Avocado oil , jojoba oil , coconut oil (becareful with it though because it might turn back to it's original stage on your head no bueno)castor oil , and lastly EVOO = extra virgin olive oil , you can also try whipping your shea butter with an oil and use that as a sealer , ECo styler gels , curl activators i've heard are great curl deffining aids i would try those first since they are cheaper before working your way up to cur enhancing smoothies than kinky curly
Also sleep on a silk pillow case and a silk bonnet to protect your hair while you sleep Good luck in your journey and good luck Smile

Hi!!
I think everyone is emphasizing moisturize because it really is true!!! your hair after BC is always dry for a couple weeks and even sometimes months! I was advised to baggy my hair at night at least twice a week to keep some moisture in my hair which really helped!! basically if you have some kind of moisturizer on your hair and sealing it with oil and putting a plastic cap on your head. then your bonnet for bed will really hold that moisture in!! and Deep conditioning!!! def. listen to your hair touch it, play with it, and learn from it!! its your hair!! welcome Smile
