What do you do when you have that urge?

I have been natural going on 10 months and I have had my days whee I love my natural hair and days where I miss my perm. I am at the stage now where I miss my perm, I know I am not going to feel this way next week. The thing with me I am very impulsive, and I am off thursday and I am going to pray I dont go to the shop and let her slap some perm on there.

What do you do when you have the urge? HELP!

Hey, Crissy. I usually start looking at photos of styles that I know I can't get with relaxed ends. I also think of my goal length which I never achieved while relaxed.

Jackie you would show up huh? LOL. You know i went through this before and I regretted. I just need to see my hair straight I think, if only for a while.

yeah...i go and look at some bad a$$ naturals like AfricanExport and blackonyx on youtube and that reminds me why i went natural...lol.

or if you just miss the straight hair, try flat ironing it (using a heat protectant, of course)...
because there is a difference between missing the perm and missing straight hair...

I went through this phase twice, the first time I got it braided, the second time I purchased a wig to get the look I wanted. Now that I'm experiencing this "urge" again, and I have the knowledge about doing it right without damage, I'm going to a natural shop to have it flat-ironed. Stay the natural course Hun. Don't lose your versatility!

Ditto ^^^^ I actually flat ironed for Thanksgiving and was not pleased at all. It looked so normal, if you know what I mean.

Hey, better late than never LOL!!!! But I do remember what you went through. You have come such a long way....Girl it's almost been a year for you!!!!!!! Maybe you can get your stylist to do a roller set or lightly flat iron it for you.

Yes ITA with NHJ! Go to the salon and get a roller set! That will stretch your hair and change it up a bit. I echo 1flysista don't lose your versatility! Hang in there!

I've been natural for most of the past 20 years. I got that urge twice during that time. Mostly out of boredom and wanting a change. Once, I permed and once I textured. Both times, I regretted it almost immediately. I missed the curls and easy maintenance. I missed swimming and working out without hassle. I missed being natural. Both times, I ended up BC'ing within weeks. Lesson learned! I have never looked back again and do not have the slightest urge to "go back".

I know how you feel I felt that way as well especially when my hair was so drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry I didnt know what to do with it My daughter is natural & I called her and said that I was about to go to the barber to get it cut down but she made me realize that I would figure what to combat the dryness I did Im glad I did not cut off the length that I have achieved

The feelings that you are having are normal for some I think but don't give in & look at how far you have come & where you want to be

Hey Crissy- I am going to echo the ladies who suggested you get a roller set or flat iron. While the weather is cold, it's time to use that flat iron! I always do that when I get bored with my hair. And every time I miss my curls. It is nice knowing I can just wash them back in. So, try something like that first! And schedule it!

I think you should get some braids just to take your mind off your hair. Sometimes when we are going through changes in life the first thing we want to do is something drastic with our hair. Getting braids will give you a break from your hair and allow you to focus on other things that may need your attention.

I have been transitioning for 10 months the urge to relax hasn't hit me yet , like everyone said watch natural videos and think about styles you will not be able to achieve if you were relaxed get a wig and put it on lol
