How to create a blog

I would love to create a blog but need help with the setup. After much google searching I am more confused than ever.

My wishlist:
~To start off with a free service provider then to purchase my own domain name so the transition must be smooth

~Easy customisation of the site

~allows me to upload my own banners etc

~basically steps to help me make my blog look professional

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

You would need to pick the one that is easiest for you to navigate and usually the design is left up to your creativity
