A LONG rant on Natural Salons BEWARE of NaKlectic!

Its been 3 almost 4 months since my big chop on June 24th 2010. After transitioning for little over a year - I anxiously found a salon that specialized in Natural Hair care. Reading their website I was ecstatic! I called and booked an appointment.

Heres the STORY of HORROR!

I arrived on time ( early like they request ! ) getting there - you have to take your shoes off!

My stylist came in = LATE !!!!

I was nervous for my big chop - I was about to have my Crown of GLORY - my 9 inches of relaxed ends cut... so this was a big step for me. First off my stylist didn't understand the step I was taking - she wasn't comforting- she was just "business" - Maybe I expected too much ?

Anyway she washed my hair, ( put in a conditioner that made my hair stiff ) then she took me to the cutting chair with towel dried - mostly wet hair.

Next she got out the scissors and started hacking off my ends- then she started asking me questions about my race and if I was mixed/mulatto or Not black... I was a little taken-aback... I was wondering what that had to do with my HAIR CUT ?
Then she was like..." oh, you got a boyfriend .... he white "?
I was just like..." um excuse me >? "

To sum this up... I paid 40 dollars for A TRIM of relaxed ends... turned out she hacked off my year of new growth.- gave me a bad cut- Mullet shaped- and my hair was dripping wet.
I tipped her - and she was mad it wasn't in cash ... she needed to be lucky that I even TIPPED HER!
( then she also tried to force me to get a style - .... she kept repeatedly asking even after I said No)

Ugh ... worst service ever.


3 months later- and I'm STILL upset -

I will never go back to Naklectic Salon in Maryland.


Anyone have any Rants on bad cuts or treatment at a natural salon...
What would you have done if you were in my place ??

I have gone to Na'Klectic on several occassions and never had that kind of experience. I am sorry that happened to you. Making the decision to do your big chop is a big one and it should have been handled with more compassion. I didn't do my big chop there but I went about a month after and I was seen by Latisha the salon manager and she was wonderful, she educated me about my hair and we talked about the goals for my hair, she mixed fresh product and really pampered me. It was the BEST service I have ever had at a salon. I would suggest you give either Latisha or the salon owner a call and let them know what your experience was.

What would you have done if you were in my place ??

I certainly would not have tipped her, it left her with the impression that you were satisfied with the service and her conduct(even if you never go back or refer other clients).
I would have requested a consultation with the stylist that was going to perform my services. That would have given you the heads up that it was not a match and you could have kept it moving.
I hope your next experience is better.

It sounds awful. I would have expected more from a salon that specializes in natural hair.

I should I have went to the owner for the first time- and not the stylist that was just open and available to take me... Because my experience was one that really left me feeling that all natural salons might do the same to me.
