IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Does anyone use IC Fantasia Olive styling gel for twists or buns? I know it has a cone in it, however, it's towards the bottom of the ingredients. I'm wondering is it okay if I add coconut oil or shea butter along with the gel will it be as harmful? Help chicas! Sometimes I won't be able to afford the more expensive stylers. I've also used aloe vera gel but somehow the fantasia gives me more definition I think.

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
I use the Aloe Vera one. I've never added anything to the gel itself but I have applied oil to my hair the same time as applying the gel and I have not had a problem. I am on my third jar....it's become a staple for when I need my hair to lie down.
Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Thanks Tia [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] my intentions were to buy the aloe vera one but for some reason the color was pink! I know it was once clear, when I asked the sales person he didn't have an answer of course! It made me think they may have changed the ingredients or something so I just stuck with the Olive one instead. They basically have the same ingredients, so I'll keep it and just add a little oil like you said. You're hair is awesome too!

Hmm, mine is still clear so I don't know about that. I wouldn't have purchased it either.
Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Went through several gels b4 that one became my staple. I use it as is for edges & my flat twistouts - great hold; no itching; no flakes.

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Fantasia IC has not mixed well with many other products in my experience..so I'd say be careful and just try a little glop on a section of hair. Wouldn't want white stuff all over your hair. =]

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
I use the clear one with sparklelites, but someone posted a recipe for a homemade curly pudding on Nappturality that combines the gel with shea butter and the oil of your choice (and EOs if you want). I did it a couple of months ago with my aloe butter, sweet almond oil and maybe some coconut oil and I used it on my braids and twists and they remained very soft. I'll see if I can find it!

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
@AfroButtafly- I had the same thing happen. I used it to slick my hair back for my puffs while I was transitioning, but don't let me spritz my hair and then reapply the gel. Icky white stuff everywhere. I stopped using it until I came across that recipe on Nappturality.

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Here's one version:
3 STICKS COCOA BUTTER
1/2 OF JAR OF BEESWAX 2oz
1 32 oz TUB CURL ACTIVATOR
Begin by taking the cocoa butter sticks and placing them in a bowl. Scoop out 1/2 jar of bees wax and place it in the same bowl. Microwave bees wax and cocoa butter until they are liquid. Use an other larger bowl to put the curl activator it. Leave some curl activator inside of the jar for later. Take liquid wax and cocoa butter and pour it into the bowl with the curl activator. Mix vigorously with a spoon. what you will first get while mixing these the two may look like cellulite but be persistant and keep mixing until the mixture looks exactly like vanilla pudding then mix in remander of activator gel in the jar.
If you do not microvave the bees wax well enough it will clump up when you add it to the cold gel activator it may bead up and not allow you to get the perfectly smooth consistancy that you want. If this happens put the whole solution in the microwave for 4 minutes then beging to mix again. after about 2 minutes of mixing add back in the curl activator you left out from before and it should begin to look like pudding.
Apply to wet hair and style using shingling process discribed @ curvesalon.com. or how ever you wish.
This recipe on one average head of hair will last for about 2 months, and costs under 10 dollars, with some bees wax left over to haddle those pesky edge naps. I hope this has been helpful and I hope it works for you

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Here's another:
-20oz jar of fantasia ic gel with olive extract(green)
-3 sticks cocoa butter(cocoa care)
-2 tablespoons shea butter
-4 oz. cocasta shikakai oil(pretty much castor oil on steroids. really moisturizing with sweet almond oil, vatika oil, henna extract hairveda.net)
-1/2oz extra virgin olive oil
-1oz ramtirth brahmi oil
-4oz aloe vera gel(lily of the desert)
-glob of honey
-2 drops peppermint eo
-2 drops rosemary eo
I put the butters and honey into a bowl and melted them in the microwave, around 4 minutes. I had scooped the gel into a seperate bowl. I poured the melted butters into the bowl with the gel and stirred with a spoon until it looked pretty mixed(no gel globs) I then added the oils and essential oil drops and continued to mix, although i used a whisker(lol i have no idea what its called, but you can beat eggs with it)
It wound up a really nice, creamy and lotiony consistency. I applied to soaking hair in the shower(no too heavy handed) and shook a little. The definition really was outrageous, i was stunned. And best of all, no residue!! Who knew i could create my own HG product? I can't wait to try this ob a twistout. I hope someone tries these recipes!!

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Here's one:
Ingredients:
Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner - 9 ounces
*I added a squirt of Suave toasted almond condish to the mix, purely because I didn't want to use all my TJ condish, next go around I'll use only TJ*
Lottabody concentrated setting lotion - 3 ounces
Pure glycerin - 1 ounce
Organic unrefined Spectrum coconut oil - 1 ounces
*I added a squirt of jojoba oil, simply because I like it*
Rosemary essential oil - about 10 drops
Put all in large container, whip well until everything is thoroughly blended. I ended up adding a little bit more of the TJ condish to thicken the mixture up. Enjoy!

Here's another:
Homemade curly pudding #1
Ingredients:
World of Curls curl activator gel - entire 10.2 ounce jar, that actually came out to be 8 ounces
Organic unrefined spectrum coconut oil - 1.5 ounces
Castor oil - 1.5 ounces
*You can use any 3 ounces of oil, or even up the amount if you wish, there is no limit to making what works for you*
Fruit Of The Earth (FOTE) Aloe Vera Gel - 4 ounces
*I added some banana boat after sun aloe vera gel because I didn't want to use all of my FOTE aloe vera gel*
Rosemary essential oil - 10-15 drops (I added extra to mask the scent of the curl activator gel)
Put everything into a large container, whip well for five minutes and enjoy!

This is Shawnettes Version
The Base Recipe:
1 20oz jar IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel - $3.69 (I used the Olive. Smells yummy!)
4oz Unrefined Raw Shea Butter - $5.99 for 16oz (I actually use a 50/50 shea/cocoa mix)
1oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Already on hand because I use it for cooking.
Extra Moisture Version:
1 jar IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel
4oz Aloe Vera Gel
4oz Unrefined Raw Shea Butter (I actually use a 50/50 shea/cocoa mix)
1oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1oz Vitamin E Oil
Soften the shea butter. Add the oil and using a hand blender or food
processor, whip the shea butter. While still mixing, add the gel a
little at a time. Continue to whip until smooth.

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
i've used the olive oil gel one cuz in my head i think its just as good if not better than the regular aloe vera one. its the best gel i've ever used, maybe cuz back in the day the black and clear gel was popular. however, the IC fanny gel doesnt flake which i love so i love using it fresh out the shower to make my twa pop! im definitely takin notes on the extra moisture recipe, good job ladies!

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
Wow, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I have some shealoe butter that I wanted to try adding to the gel but didn't know the right ratios. I remember someone on youtube made a concoction with a similar concept only she threw like 15 products in there and I wanted to keep it simple. The extra moisture recipe seems perfect. Great job on the research. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
p.s. The pink IC gel is a different kind from the clear and called "hard to hold". I get enough hold from the original so I never bothered with it for fear that it would make my hair crunchy. I might have to look into the green one though.

Thanks ladies! I'm taking notes! I recently used some for my bun the other day and it kinda made it hard, I think the key is to add the moisture via shea and other essential oils. Thanks a bunch curlies!

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
I used IC Fantasia (the clear aloe kind) on a whim the other weekend and I LOVED it
I smoothed some on over Yes to Cucumbers leave in and I kept looking at my hair in the mirror and asking my boyfriend touch it (we were at a party)
I had near perfect curl formation/clumping and and my hair was soft

AfrikanLatina, I especially like your recipe- short list of ingredients & less costly. I have a TWA and want to keep maintenance simple and low cost. I'm not going to get on the curly pudding hype right now- I can't afford them. I'm glad that naturals before me decided to make their own 'brew' THANKS!!!!

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
I recently made the curly pudding with a few alterations:
The Base Recipe:
1 20oz jar IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel - I used the entire jar
4oz Unrefined Raw Shea Butter - used only 4 oz.
1oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil - didn't have EVOO on hand so I used the Hollywood brand Olive Oil sold in dollar stores
and added: 2 oz. Castor Oil to mix
The outcome was a smooth whipped mousse consistentcy. I two strand twisted my hair last evening using the pudding, and wrapped over night. This morning my hair was very soft and the curls were defined. I did work a little leave in conditioner in my hair this morning while separating the twist.
**A little goes a lonnnng way! You won't have to add any oils when using this.

Re: IC Fantasia Styling Gel
I tried Shawnette's version of the curly pudding recipe for extra moisture, using IC gel. I was a little heavy handed when I twisted my hair, but overall, I was happy with the results. My hair was soft, moisturized and defined. This recipe is a keeper.
