soooo
I bought some aloe vera gel in a clear tube from whole foods and didn't read the back bc it said 99% natural (plus I was in a hurry smh) so I just got home to whip up a mixture and had the urge to read the back and the last ingriedient on there was sodium hydroxide o_O
I feel some type of way about this I think I will return it...I know what sodium hydroxide can do to hair while I was in beauty school. Now I do have some clients who are relaxed but I'm not putting that mess on Lola

Re: soooo
It may not make much difference with it being the last ingredient. That means it has the lowest concentration in the mix. On the other hand no need to take a chance if you don't have to.

I bought the Lily of the Valley tube from Whole Foods also. Maybe I didn't use it right or maybe I should have applied it to freshly cleaned hair. I did a test run and applied it to my edges on the right side of my head and it was so dry that I didn't know how to come back from that. I haven't had the nerve to use it again but I don't want to give up on it. I may try layering it with an oil of some sort.

Hey ladies. This is the same brand that Kimmytube uses in her leave in mixture on You Tube.... I haven't used it personally myself but a lot of ladies rave about it on this forum in the General section...
The ingredients of the leave in are KCKT, Aloe Vera juice, Jojoba Oil and Castor Oil...
I'm gonna try it out once I am able to locate the ingredients

Re: soooo
Sodium Hydroxide in very small quantities is only used to balance the PH of a product. It won't relax your hair lol

We are talking about 100% organic aloe vera gel that you can buy from stores like Whole Food, The Vitamin Shoppe or Trader Joes. The line I use is by Lily of the Desert and I buy it at The Vitamin Shoppe. You can buy it from where ever you like but remember to buy !00% organic aloe vera gel.

Re: soooo
Although not free, I thought I would offer my thoughts. The gel is a moisturizer and can provide a light hold. I purchase the same one free wrote about. I also use their juice and gelly.krys315 wrote:free

krys315,
To add to what ChrsLvsBks said, in general when people refer to aloe vera gel, they don't mean the hair styling product gel even though some people may use it as such. They are referring to a gelatinous substance that is either squeezed freshly from aloe vera leaves, or purchased in a tube or bottle. In the latter it would be labeled as aloe vera gel, and if not in the moisturizer section is often stocked next to sunscreens due to its common use to soothe and moisturize sunburnt skin. You can find various brands in those stores mentioned such Trader Joes, Whole Foods, health food stores, etc. but can also find AVG in pharmacies and drug stores, although these often have added colors and other ingredients.
There are many hair styling products that have lots of aloe vera gel in them (e.g. Kinky Curly Curly Pudding, which is a styling gel), but no one refers to these as aloe vera gel.
HTH!
