Maryland Empty Maryland

Post by c0urtn3ylove 7th August 2010, 8:41 pm

So I went to Essentials Beauty Spa in Laurel, MD. My experience was rather mixed. So my appointment for my big chop was at 1 but I wasn't seen until close to 2. The shampoo girl thought I was just waiting there so she shampooed someone else before she realized that I was supposed to have gone for the woman she began shampooing. After that little hiccup, it was smooth sailing. My stylist, Temi, cut my hair, steam conditioned, trimmed, applied some of Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding, and I sat under a dryer for 30 minutes. All of this and a sample size of Miss Jessie's was a part of their Big Chop package. So besides my experience with the shampoo girl, my overall experience was good.

Maryland Empty Na'klectic Hair Studio in Baltimore, MD

Post by chrissybaird 9th August 2010, 2:11 pm

I went to Na'klectic Hair Studio in Baltimore, MD. It is on 25th Street not far from North Ave. I enjoyed my experience there. As with any hair salon it was a long wait. However, the people there are friendly and welcoming. I was given something to drink while I waited. My stylists name is Inshirah (In for short). I had been transitioning for about 2 months. She washed my hair and cut it. She then put my hair in coil twists. The product that was used was a mixture created by the owner. It felt really good on my scalp and hair. I would definitely recommend this salon. Their website is naklecticnaturalhair.com

@chrissybaird this salon is really good I go to Latisha the shop manager, she is wonderful. I never have to wait, my visit to the salon is always relaxing and enjoyable.

@c0urtn3ylove I would def recommend you give them a try I think you would love it. I went to school with Inshirah (in-shere-rah) so I suggest using her or Latisha.

Maryland Empty beautywithinbyandrea

Post by tightcoilsles 16th August 2010, 6:22 pm

Hello

I get my hair done by Andrea at Anointed Hands salon in Laurel, MD. She specializes in natural hair care. I usually get two strand twists but sometimes I get coils. I prefer twists for working out, but coils are very cute and an alternative to my twists. Her prices are very reasonable. Her website: www.beautywithinbyandrea.com She actually use to be at Essentials Beauty Spa. She does a lot of flexi sets, coils, pressandcurls.

Also, there is a Wholistic Wellness Ctr in Laurel MD off 198 called Transitionz. The owner Lynetta, is creative with natural hair styles. Ive never had my hair done by Lynetta, but ive seen her work and she is creative.

Hope this helps.

My Loctian name is Paul, he is Awesome!!

He is in a shop in Baltimore County, Naturally You! They just moved to their new location off of Liberty Road. I have been going to him for years. He has become like family to me. I go to him when I am tired of fighting with my locs and I really want to look nice. He is real quick and can do any style. He will also give you tips on how to care for your hair. Feel free to check him out.

There's also Urban Nature Styles Natural Hair Care Salon (http://www.urbannaturestyles.com/). They have a Silver Spring and a DC location. I've been to the DC location 2x. I've gotten a trim and my BC there by Mecole. This is the only natural hair salon that I've been to, so I don't have another spot to compare it to. I think that the basic price is $35.

I'm looking for a place to get two strands but I cannot go back to Essentials. Every time I've gone there (3 to be exact) there is ALWAYS a long wait. No concept of time and my time is way too valuable. To add, I don't feel all that beautiful when I leave, probably because I'm p'o'd. lol

And the owner is not friendly at all. My attitude is I have a choice where I spend my dollars and business owners should be personable when dealing with me. I tend to give you more chances if I like you, even if the service wasn't great.

I visited this salon too...a couple of times. Totally agree with you about the owner, not friendly/pleasant/cordial at all. How about greeting customers? Didn't happen either time and the waits are crazy. I think it's just so so.

I went to Urban Nature for a flexirod. I had to wait 45 minutes before they saw me. I was disappointed because although they sold Darcy Botantical products, they used Trader Joe's products in the salon. They didn't have flexirods smaller enough for my hair which is unbelievable for a professional salon. I got a trim, color and flat twists in the fron and twist outs in the back. I was extremely disapppointed. They didn't use a leave in condition, and it took forever to do my hair. My appointment was for 2:30pm and I left the shop after 7pm. I wasn't happy, and I won't go there again.

I literally just posted re: this salon (Beauty Within by Andrea) -- I was wondering if anyone had gone and what their experience was, so this was helpful Smile

Thanks!

Maryland Empty Anointed Touch Salon & Spa in Laurel, MD

Post by tj1970 14th January 2011, 5:26 pm

This is another good natural hair salon in Laurel, MD (Anointed Touch Salon & Spa) 201 Main Street. The natural hair hair stylist is Shaniqua. I was very pleased with her work and I was not there all day. The environment was warm and friendly. I have gone to Essentials and was not too pleased either kind of cold shoulder type environment. I had my hair done at Beauty Within also in Laurel it was OK but it took hours. She overbooks her clients just has people sitting in there waiting for hours, just about all day. Not cool at all. Hope this helps. Smile

Ladies, I ended up not going to the salon at all. Laughing
The reviews had me a little nervous. I ended up going to a woman who did my friend's hair and I love how she did it. Here is a pic of the new 'do.

I really like that hairstyle KeetaRay. I live in Laurel and so I know some of the salons that were mentioned on here. I go to Urban Nature in Silver Spring and I am pleased with the way the lady who does my hair. I would like to ask though if the lady who did your hair is open to the public? Sometimes my stylist gets booked up and I wanted to find another back-up when that happens.

I get my hair done by Selah who owns Selah&Co Holistic Concept Boutique and Salon in Baltimore MD. She's professional and is committed to healthy natural hair. She's absolutely fantastic.

So sorry to respond so late, just seeing this. The woman I went to does hair from her house, and she specializes in braiding. She lives in Olney, MD. While I loved my hair, she isn't a stylist, per se. After the cornrows were done I ended up styling the front of my hair myself, so I am STILL trying to find a salon who does it all for me those times I want something other than my staple twist out. If you'd like her info, PM me and I'll give you her name/ph# Smile

And thanks, ladies!
