The bun you wore today caught my attention. I def will be trying it. It is beautiful and I agree with tiashautee, you have such awesome shine.
What is GF TN? Is this the only thing you leave in your hair? Do you have any other product on your edges? Sorry for all the questions, I so want that bun.

Thanks! I'm so happy my hair has a natural shine to it again thanks to good butters, oils and careful product selection Smile

GF TN = Garnier Fructise Triple Nutrition conditioner. That was the only thing I left in my hair yesterday since I was just going to be putting it in a bun. Once in a while I'll put a little shea butter on my edges to smooth them down.

Let me know when you try the bun so I can see Smile

It's another bun day! A simpler one today. I smoothed down my edges with Koils by Nature hair butter.

Hello my curly friends!
This has been a nice weekend for me as far as getting out and getting together with friends and the hubby. I started feeling much better on Friday so me and the hubs started our Christmas shopping for the boys. We don't spend much QT together anymore so I cherish those times.

Friday night, after watching many yt vids and looking at fotkis, I decided to try bantu knots.
jamaicacurl - Page 4 12_5_b10

My hair was already dry so I just applied some koils by nature hair butter to each section. I put on a silk scarf and went to bed.
The next morning I took them out and it looked like this:
jamaicacurl - Page 4 12_5_a10

Not bad but the curls were kinda wonky even after separating them. Just going all over the place. I left it out most of the day so it could fall but when I was ready to get myself together to go out I had no clue what to do with my hair! So I just ended up washing it Sad I think I need more guidance when it comes to that style.

Then yesterday evening we went to a Christmas party/gathering at a restuarant with people I work with. It was kinda not so fun but we kept each other entertained. That and the football game. I did a wash and go that came out just ok. I gave the Mixed Chicks leave in the ole college try again and just wasn't happy. That's my 3rd or 4th time using it and I still haven't had any luck. I really wanted to like it but I guess it's not for me. This time I didn't put too much in but it still leaves my hair feeling kinda waxy.

I co-washed this morning and tonight I'm just going to try putting some EVOO on my ends, put my hair in 2 braids, and wear a scarf to bed. The plan, and my hope, is to get decent 2nd day hair tomorrow. In the morning I want to just be able to spritz it with my condish + water mix, fluff and go. I'll let you know how that goes.

This morning I took out my 2 braids, sprayed my hair with my condish & water mix and applied HE TT mousse to my ends. I fluffed and went. I wasn't really too happy with the way my hair looked. My curls were not too defined and it looked like I may have put too much EVOO on my ends because they were kind of stretched out. But I had already taken my shower and it was time to go so I had no choice really.

Looking in the mirror periodically today I realized it didn't look that bad. Could be better but not bad.

I'm still stalking yt videos and fotki's for hairstyle ideas. I'll try one later or tomorrow and post.

Your bantu knot out looked great--full and shiny. I hope you try it again. You can flip your head upside down and lift the roots for volume and put on a band or make a side part with or without an accessory.

Today it rained so I didn't want to leave my hair out so I put it up in a bun. I twisted 5 or 6 sections of hair around my head and pinned them all at the center of my head. I then wrapped the remaining hair around in a bun.

This evening I made some flaxseed gel, which I haven't made in a while. I didn't put as much extra stuff as I used to in the summer so we'll see how it goes. I just did the flaxseed and added a pinch of magnesium sulfate and aloe vera gel. I made a small 3oz batch (just enough for my little bottle) so I don't waste any in case it's not to my liking. I will use my FSG tomorrow over my leave in and scrunch in a little mousse.

I forgot how much I like flaxseed gel! I made some yesterday and kept it simple by only adding mag. sulfate (for curl enhancement) and aloe vera gel for extra moisture.

This morning I didn't co-wash since I did that yesterday but I did wet my hair in the shower and did an apple cider vinegar rinse, and applied GF Triple Nutrition (without washing out the ACV). I detangled with all that in and rinsed it out.
I then applied GVP Conditioning balm as my leave-in and applied the flaxseed gel over that and scrunched in HE TT mousse on the ends. I plopped for about 15 mins and air dried the rest of the way.

While at work I scrunched out the crunch and voila! Great curls and clumping, minimal frizz!

I always get more clumps on the right side.

How do you get pictures to have the "enlarge image" above them? I posted my coil out pics using the directions that Curly Nikki posted but you can't enlarge them.

Thanks ladies for the compliments!

@Pinkrage - the first time I uploaded pics they came out huge and didn't have the "enlarge image" above it either. But after the first couple of times it started showing that. I'm not sure why but I just followed CN's directions and it did it automatically.

Hey Smile

I like your bantu knots, especially how they looked before you took them down (i think i would wear this around during a lazy weekend or something for a protective style). I also think you got some good curl out of them, too.

i absolutely ADORE the twists going up into the bun.

and lastly: what is this flaxseed gel you speak of? Please explain the benefits!

The flaxseed gel is something that I first learned about on naturallycurly.com. When boiled, flaxseeds produce this gel-like stuff that is very moisturizing for your hair. As you may know, flaxseeds are a great source of omega 3 fatty acids which is great for your skin, hair, and heart health (when ingested). Here's one of many sites that gives a recipe and details on benefits:
http://www.examiner.com/x-27001-Houston-Health--Beauty-Examiner~y2009m10d22-Benefits-of-flax-seed-gel-on-natural-hair

It's all natural so no chemicals you can't pronounce are in there and it doesn't leave your hair flaky. Your hair might get a bit hard but that problem is solved by simply scrunching out the crunch with your hands. It leaves me with soft curly hair all day Smile

In the summer I would add honey or agave nectar to my FSG and some type of oil but I found it to be just too much. So now that the colder weather is here, honey or agave nectar are not needed since they are humectants. I like to stick with a pinch of magnesium sulfate (aka epsom salt) for curl enhancement and aloe vera gel for extra moisturizing. I have the drug store AVG so I really need to get some of the real good stuff that you keep in the fridge!

Some people add essential oils also for scent. Alone, FSG doesn't have a scent so I don't add any EO's. Here is one of many youtube videos on how to make FSG:

Between yesterday and today I've gotten so many great compliments on my hair! Yay! I even have to look at it everytime I pass a mirror because I'm so proud lol! Today was another good hair day and I think it's really thanks to the flaxseed gel. A friend of minem, who is natural, came over earlier and for the first couple of minutes all she could say was "wow" and "oooh, your hair looks soo good!". She noticed that I had it all out instead of my usual style where I pin the middle front part back. She asked me what I did and I told her and even gave her some flaxseeds and how I made the gel. I am hoping this is not just a fluke and that it continues. I'm realizing that even after all the products and techniques I've been learning about and trying, my hair responds better when I just keep it simple!

jamaicacurl - Page 4 Empty Beautiful Hair - Twists into Bun and Flaxseed Gel Curls

OMGorgeousness--twists to bun and curls with flaxseed gel. Your styles look great. I am going to try the bun style!

Your curls are popping with the gel. I may have to try making the gel before the summer so I can tweak it.

Again, great results!
If you have a daughter in the future, you have some styles you can try on her.

Thanks Chrs! The gel is really working for me. It didn't work out this well in the summer but I think it's because of all the extra things I put in it.
As for having a daughter in the future...girl, if there was a guarantee I'd get pregnant tomorrow! LOL People are always asking me when I'm going to try for a girl. Not any time soon! But in my head I still like the idea jamaicacurl - Page 4 Herz .
