Hope FOUND...Thought I'd share :)
So if anyone read my last (and first) post, you know that I was a little stressed about what to do with my completely natural but very heat damaged hair. Per your responses and the opinions of my family, I had decided that a BC was the best option for me. Monday night, as I stood before the mirror with scissors in hand, boyfriend by my side ready to tackle the back, and butterflies in my stomach, I got a call and had to run out for something so the cut didn't happen.
The next morning I decided to give my flexi-rod set one more chance before going through with the cut and it came out AMAZINGLY! I cowashed and deep-conditioned (w/ EVOO, Aloe vera gel, CD Khoret Amen leave-in, and a mix of some essential oils) before setting my hair and used only water and MJ Baby Buttercreme to seal the ends while rolling and let it airdry and VOILA!
It seems that the problem before was I was using too much product when all that my fine hair wanted was some deep moisturizing beforehand and to be left alone! I freshened it up this morning with some CD Hair milk and it still looks great!
I say all this to say, for those who are transitioning (or not transition per-se like me but with 2 diff textures) and frustrated but not really looking to BC, HANG IN THERE and simply listen to your hair as it will tel you what it needs.
Thanks CN Community for all of your help during my time of frustration. I'm excited to keep you all updated as I continue on my heat-free journey!
P.S. Any products that you could recommend for maintaining my hair would be very much appreciated as I'm simply learning as I go. YES to being FREED from the hold of the salon!

even though I haven't seen your last post I'm happy you found something that works for you! The result is very cute I want to try this. Where did you get your flexi-rod set from?

Thanks ladies!
I must admit, I have a secret addiction to beauty supply stores [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] so whenever I'm near one, I kind of run in and grab SOMETHING lol. So that's what happened with the flexi-rods. I've picked them up at different spots but the ones I have are the orange, red, and burgundy (though I've never used them) ones. HTH.

Your hair looks really nice! Flexirods were one of my favorite styles when I was relaxed. They are so easy to do.

Thank you, it's a twist out with flat-twist at the side part. There is a better pic in on my Fotki page in the December 2009 Album

lol @ "divorce from flat iron"
ok so just as I'm about to head to the store to get the flexi rods (and probably multiple other things I don't need) my car stops working...Is this a sign I need to stop buying hair products?

Oh girl yeah, that's pretty much a sure sign! I'm about to go pick up my check which is a bad thing for my habit so hopefully my car stops too lol

It looks like you and I are in the same boat, FrankliDanni. I've been natural for 10 years but religiously fried my strands in college. Now I'm weening myself off my ceramic irons and blow dryers to grow full and healthy hair. My hair comes just past my collarbone, and I refuse to BC, so I just trim the ends regularly. I've had great results with Curlformers. They are more than worth their price. http://www.sallybeauty.com/Curlformers-kit/SBS-473040,default,pd.html
After co-washing, I spray my hair with a half-half mix of water and Desert Essence Green Apple Conditioner and seal the ends with Jane Carter Nourish & Shine and set one-inch sections in Curlformers. It takes about 30 minutes. I sleep with them in overnight, remove in the morning and fluff. The result is voluminous curls that last about three days. They can be stretched even longer in up-dos.
Henna and deep conditioning also will work wonders to strengthen your damaged hair. Good luck!
