Frizzy, flat, crunchy hair: why? Empty Frizzy, flat, crunchy hair: why?

My hair has gone from bouncy, shiny and smooth to frizzy, flat and crunchy. Does anyone know why hair would be like that? I think it may be over moisturized, but I'm not sure. Anyone? What a Face Like a Star @ heaven Suspect afro a fro!! haha!

Oh no! What's your routine and what products are you using?

I shampoo every 2 weeks, co-wash every 2-3 days, and deep condition every 2 weeks.

I have started using Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in conditioner, Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol, and South of France Shea Butter soap bar. I have been using HE Hello Hydration and Totally Twisted, Aphogee Leave-in conditioner, Organics Coconut milk shampoo, Aussie Moist, Cantu Shea Butter, Lustrasilk Olive Oil Hair Mayonnaise, and Lustrasilk Herbal Cholesterol Deep Conditioning Cream, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, and Motions Marula Oil hair and scalp spray. (whoa that's a mouthful).

I just hennaed for the first time today and it's been sitting for about 4 hours as of now. I think I loaded up with too many products that were weighing my hair down, but I'm not sure.

I had this problem and this is what I learned (the hard way). From my experience flat hair usually indicates too much product, I now only use three at a time. One shampoo, one conditioner, and one oil or butter. Try pairing up the products differently until you find which ones your hair likes and reacts the best to. Also, I took the (bad) suggestion of doing protein treatments and my hair felt like wire afterwards. If your diet is well-balanced a lot of treatments are unnecessary. For example, I drink protein shakes daily....I get my protein and putting extra in my hair only made it hard. Lesson learned. Do you moisturize and seal nightly? That helped a lot with my frizziness. The more moisturized my hair is the less frizzy I am. One that characteristics of natural hair that sometimes discourages people is not getting the results you believe you should get. What works for one may not work for another. I learned what to do by experimenting. To save money when I had a product that "sucked." I would doctor it up with some essential oils to personalize it to suit my hair's needs.

Good Luck

ITA with Tia.

To add, you might be suffering from a moisture problem too. Many of the products you listed contain (lots) of protein. Maybe you can swap them out for moisturizing ones, and see where that leaves you. I"d hold off on the Aphogee, Organics, and Cantu for a few weeks, and assess the situation. Your hair may not be a protein fan...or it might just need some more moisture to balance it out.

I'd use:
-one shampoo (no sls), used bi-weekly
-Herbal Essence to detangle
-one conditioner + one styler (preferably without protein)
-one deep treatment, and scalp treatment

There is no way you can pinpoint the problem until you eliminate some of your goodies from the list.

keep us posted!

I have had the same thing happen to me. It's too much protein without enough moisture to balance things out. Clarify and start with a few things at a time. Sometimes less is more. BTW, you 3 have 3 of my favorite heads of hair! I need to update my pic.

To add on....
I actually try to stay away from items with a lot of protein because my diet is rich in protein. I made that mistake once and had a hard breakable mess on my head. I drink protein shakes and according the the container I am getting almost double of what I really need to take in.

This is great information. My hair had been brittle for a while.

I tried a moisturizing technique that BlackOnyx77 uses on You tube.

I use a waterbased moisturizer..seal with oil and apply a cream. It worked for me. I also learned that I am heavy handed with products and I use too many at one time.
