Re: TriniCherryPrincess
@BajanPrincess82 Great question!
I'm one of those naturals that wears straight styles in the cold months and protective (and/or curly) styles in the hot months. This has always worked for me because I was always more active in summer and in winter (I'm not a fan of the cold) I tend to sweep my hair up. Don't have to worry about my head being wet and getting sick either.
It's not so bad since I only press my hair once a month, so that's maybe 7-9 times a year (7/365). I usually never use a hair dryer and I don't ever use curling irons. So technically, I never use heat on my hair. Any heat damage I've received in the past was due to laziness on my part.
I decided that I would try something different and maybe wear my hair straight only in extremely cold months. It won't be frigid until December-March so we'll see.

Re: TriniCherryPrincess
I tried the pin curls again last night. I can look at it one way and say that it failed since it didn't come out like Crown & Glory's but another way to look at it is like this- my hair came out looking really full. It looked nice. So, I guess I won't give up on it. Even if it doesn't come out the way it's supposed to my hair will still good nice so...win?

Hello!
I'm making decisions about what to do with my hair next. In the meanwhile I read a post from MopTopMaven (here) and I think I'll try washing my hair like this and see how it turns out.

I'm really happy with my hair today (wash day). It was so soft and easy to manage. That hair cut did wonders for my hair.
I tried MopTopMaven's detangling shampoo method (mentioned in previous post) and that worked great for me! I've tried dividing my hair into four to wash before but I never held my hair at the ends while shampooing my scalp like she does. I definitely recommend it!
I didn't like how long it took me to do everything. I started sometime around 2pm and I just finished everything (now 6:30pm). I don't have time to do that frequently...so I don't know.
Right now my hair is in flexi rods, because I'm trying the famous TnC. The only difference is that I have the front of my hair in braids (since it's looser) and the back in twists. We'll see how it comes out. If it is satisfactory I'll keep it for a few days.
Products used:
Water & Conditioner Spritz- Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut
Shampoo- Pantene Pro-V R & N
Protein Treatment- Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor
Deep Condition- ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner
Detangler & Leave-in- Aussie Moist Conditioner
Styler- Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel Extra Strong
We'll see how it comes out.

Great results with braid out!
I use MoptopMaven's technique also when cleansing. I like it.

@ChrsLvsBks Thanks!
Ok, now I'm impressed! I haven't had to do anything with my hair all week! It pretty much looks the same as it did Sunday (day 1), except some frizz. Tomorrow is the last day I plan to wear it, then I'm washing my hair. Yay!

Re: TriniCherryPrincess
Hello everyone! It's been a long time. So much has happened since then, but not much regarding my hair.
I was wearing it pressed for a while. Then I noticed that it had been too long since my last PT. The hair dresser I go to now doesn't do those things and I'm scared to get charged extra if I ask! So I decided to skip the salon and give my hair some TLC.
It's funny that CN posted about dry twist outs recently because I had been thinking of doing a dry bantu knot out and seeing how it went.
I washed my hair (same products as mentioned before), PT'd, then DC'd. My hair wasn't tangled but I went over it again with fingers and wide tooth comb and Aussie Moist anyway. I then wrung my hair of excess water and blow dried my hair, section by section (after spraying with heat protectant spray). Then I put in the bantu knots (used Cantu Shea Butter on my scalp and a EVOO/EVCO mix on length of hair and ends).
It came out ok, but it was way too curly for my liking. Then I saw CN's post and how she doesn't like the length she gets with her revised TnC. Well, I liked what I saw so I decided to try it!
I used what I used for when I first tried the TnC (sorry that I'm being so lazy and not linking!). I got good results the last time so I guess when I wake up I'll see what happens. Hopefully I find time to update again soon.
Everyone have a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday! And if you're into Black Friday, be safe!

Re: TriniCherryPrincess
I just got caught up you posts and I see it does take a long time to do you hair on wash days; however, you do have a lot of hair!!
Just wanted to stop by and say hello.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope to skip the Black Friday in store sales....some stores are opening up at 12midnight. That is way too early and the crowds are unbelievable!!

Hello Princess:
Don't give up! Hang in there! It takes time to figure products and what works for your hair out. Be patient with yourself!

Re: TriniCherryPrincess
I had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner with just a few family members, then I went to work (double shift, yay). When I got back I had a family friend's house warming to go to. That's where the picture is from.
I think I prefer the wet-set TnC to the dry-set TnC. It is something I'll keep for the future and maybe I'll get different results with different products. I liked the way my hair looked (especially at the party; you can't see my hair bump in the picutre). I got mixed reactions. People at the party seemed to like it (it was a Guyanese affair, so most of the guests were Indian) but my own aunt and mom (Trini but mostly a black mix) didn't like it. We got into an argument before we left. I tried to stay calm and remember all I've learned from CN. They are still in the mindset where blacks need to wear their hair straight or as straight as possible. I gave them some facts and then said we're entitled to our own opinions. My mom won't let it go though. I like the variety of things I can do with my hair and since I've been taking better care of my hair you can see that it's healthy (another aunt was there and commented on that when she saw me). That's all that matters to me. Curly or straight, as long as it's healthy, it's my choice.
I'm going to wash my hair today to get rid of the gel and the smell of smoke (I hate that). Not sure what I'll do with it. Depends on my mood.
Ok, have a great day!

Hello all!
I randomly learned how to flat twist last night. I wasn't even trying and I didn't know what I was doing until I saw the results (2 twists on either side of my head). I tried taking pictures but my camera sucks and didn't do it justice.
I've finally finished up my Pantene shampoo and conditioner; also the ORS deep conditioner. Today I pre-poo'd, poo'd, pt'd, dc'd, and TnC'd my hair. I used a new shampoo- Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter. It smells nice but I didn't really notice any different results. Oh, I'm taking a 3wk break from straight hair.
I've been seeing a lot of good feedback on the Tangle Teezer and I plan to purchase it this weekend! Will use next time I do my hair and will review.
Stay lovely!

Re: TriniCherryPrincess
I just used the Tangle Teezer for the first time.
O M G, where has this thing been all my life???
I love it. It made detangling my hair in the shower a breeze. Parted my hair in two, passed it through one side at a time, and got my hair in 6 twists in no time.
I'm currently setting another TnC. This past week it held up great. I don't end up having to do mine over during the week, but maybe it's just because I'm comfortable with how it looks. I leave the curls down with a middle part during the first few days and then as the week goes on find ways to pull it back in a half ponytail or a ponytail. It works for me, even if others find it "unappealing" because no one knows what I've gone through all these years trying to find something to do with my hair. I'm happy and that's good enough for me!

Ugh, I feel so boring compared to you guys...
Hey everyone! Nothing new to say really. I'm trying some Bee Mine samples, and so far so good. I'll get back to that another time.
I've been going through all of your journals and you guys have come such a long way. You should be proud of yourselves, you're all beautiful!
I probably should write that on every single journal, but time...yeah...time...haha.
Have a happy Monday! I'll be around again.
