I haven't tried it yet, but her hair looks awesome. When I stop being lazy with my hair, I may try it. Here is one of her videos explaining how she does her braid out

That's neat. I have never seen that before but love the results she got on all those she did.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
I have tried it. I personally like it. Its a little tricky trying to start it especially when trying to cornrow your hair. I finally got the hang of regular braiding it cornrowing I am still working on. I think it gives my hair more uniform definition in my opinion and its easier to hide the parts once you rock it out. I noticed the you can play with how tightly you braid it versus braiding it more elongated.
Here are my results with it. I am transitioning...

I wonder if there's a way to make the braids so that your roots/root-area is not so straight.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
I wore this style several times in the summer. IMO, it is one of the best styles to solve the "2 texture" dilemma. Here is a copy and past of a post I did previously to alert people trying it for the first time of some considerations.
"There is a slight learning curve to the scarf braidout, but I really like it. The width of the scarf strips will determine the depth of the curl pattern. If you can imagine braidout vs twistout, you will get what I am trying to explain. Make sure the scarf is satin and make sure it is long enough. I found out the hard way, a strip too short affects the results. Also, the only tricky part for me was learning how to tie the end so it results in this really cute curl when you remove the scarf. Once you get the hang of it, it is a quick process. I never perfected the knot at the bottom, so I would cheat and place a perm rod at the end sometimes. Hope my comments are not making you shy away. Really, it is a neat style as long as the hair is allowed to completely dry. If you try it, let us know what you think. I will revisit this style in warmer weather only!"

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
Bajan - You can solve the straight roots by "flat twisting" and then beginning the braid scarf method. It will take a little practice, but it is do-able and really looks great
I agree with TPayne about the ease of hiding parts. Also, it is a quicker process if you need to re-braid (plait) at night. There is another young lady on YT (I forgot her name, but I will look through my notes) who does 5 braids instead of the 3 Zain does. The 5 worked better for me b/c my hair is very thick. So, modify as you see fit.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
I saw NinaPruitt's vid on this yesterday. I really want to try it. I haven't done braidouts really because I'm scared I'd cause too much frizz taking them out. But this seems simple enough.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
Yall are going to make me go to the fabric store just to buy some satin!! OMG!! I am loving this!!!
Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
CC Cutie, don't be afraid of frizz. The key is allowing the hair to completely dry! Also, I found this braid option was not as prone to frizz as the normal way to plait. When I plait, I usually put oil on my hands and rub my palms together or use JC Nourish and shine and remove the plaits. I did not have to do that with the scarf N braid.
The first several times, I cut strips from the satin scarves I already had.
BTW, I love your new avi

Is this done on transitioning hair or permed? Their hair looks straight. Can this be done on chemical free hair?

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
Alanija, I am in my 10th month of transitioning. This works on my hair. I actually do it on stretched hair. Zan uses a texlax (or she did when I first saw the video back in the summer). Its just a braidout. The only difference is she uses a scarf as the 3rd section of hair where we would use 3 sections of hair if we were doing regular braiding/plaiting.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
Oh, so it should work on my hair if it's stretched as opposed to freshly washed? I would like to try this sometime.

Re: Satin Scarf Braid Out
Alanija, I only did it on wash day 1 time and that is b/c my hair is so thick, it took FOREVER to dry. It doesn't have to be stretched b/c really the scarf braid stretches the hair. For me personally, even when I did it at night on "misted"hair (b/c you mist it to reset it at night) my hair would not be completely dry in the morning. I would take it down and it would be damp, but I would leave it alone to dry loose and it did not frizz on me. But, by all means, try it on wash day. It should look very nice.
