Best strengthening product? (all natural)

What natural product can I use to strengthen my hair? I left my hair out and didn't consistently moisturize it for most of December and January so its breaking off a lot now. (stupid and my fault, I know) I started moisturizing it regularly again, and put in some small box braids but i still see little pieces on the ends breaking, is there any way to stop it? I just got a trim in January so that isn't a solution for me.

I just want an all natural product that will strengthen my hair. Any suggestions? Pretty please! I want to stop it from breaking off before it gets any thinner!!

i have found adding a whole egg to my conditioners help. doing a rinse with black tea and/or spritizing hair with the black tea on the daily helps. also, deep condtioning with amla, neem and tulsi powders work. i have heard (i haven't used yet though) that henna and cassia does wonders. hth

The only thing that helped strengthen my hair was henna. My strands are fine to medium and prone to breakage and henna has greatly improved the health in my hair. I definitely have less breakage now.

I just started using henna (doing it now actually, my 3rd treatment) and I have already seen a difference in the strength of my hair. It pretty amazing.

You could try the following.
Liquid amino acids or panthenol .02 parts in liquid of choice, possible liquid choices are leave-in conditioners and/or moisturizer
Adding coconut milk to conditioners

I agree with Carla and Craving on the henna; it's wonderful for strengthening the hair. I've been using henna about 4 months along with other Ayurveda powders and oils and my hair is so much stronger plus, I've been able to eliminate doing DC or leave in conditioners. All I'm using now are my Ayurveda powders and henna - my hair loves it. dance

i want all of what you guys mentioned, except the henna (its too messy,and i dont want it to stain my counters)

Hi Jaz, With the henna, it can be a little messy, but it does not stain counters or floors nor has it stained the old tee shirts I've worn when applying the henna. I've done several henna treatments since November and I've found that it's not that messy as I expected.

I will just echo what the ladies said about the henna. Light protein, many of the ayurvedic herbs, and clay helps, but the henna just kicks up the strengthening to a whole new level for me. Funny how the henna stains us, but not the tub, sink, floor, etc., but I think that might be b/c those things are porous. My only mess is the tub when I rinse it out. I don't put down paper or anything like that. The tub is gritty and has a dirty ring.
Henna not only strengthened my hair, but virtually eliminated the frizzy hair, and my porosity issue.

Hey Jaz, if you don't want to use Henna, you could use another Ayurveda powder - Amla. Amla is a conditioner that promotes hair growth by strengthening the roots of the hair.

You can usually get Amla at any local Indian grocery store and can be mixed with warm water to make a paste. You can also add a little condish, EVOO and honey to boost it a little for more of a DC treatment.

Unless you have a porous surface (ie: tile with grout ) it wont stain. You can even test a small patch in an obscure location just to check. I have old designated towels and clothes that I used for hair color and none of that is stained with henna. It washes completely out ironically enough. If mixed well into a workable paste or henna gloss that's not too dry or wet - like the consistency of brownie batter, it should not be too bad in terms of the actual mess.

I used to dye my hair with commercial color and THAT was messy as all get out!

okay, i wont rule out henna. do you guys know if you can leave henna in your hair? like mixed with a leave-in conditioner or something? and indigo does the same thing but its just black right?

Hi Jaz, you want to thoroughly rinse out henna, plus I've been able to eliminate the use of leave in's since I began using henna and other Ayurveda powders.

I agree. Henna is great for strengthening your hair, adding shine, thickness. Yes it can be a little messy and time consuming. But to me, the pros outweigh the cons. Another ayuveda powder that I like is Amla. I use it to make a paste with water and then mix with Biolage conditioning balm(or Sally's generic one), a little olive oil, and honey and use as a deep conditioner.

thanks for the tips everyone! Im gonna buy some henna/indigo as soon as i get some $. and mabe some Amla and the other powders you guys mentioned as well. for now I bought some Aubrey Organics GPB Protein conditioner that ill deep condition with while my braids are in.

and im happy to say my hair has stopped breaking dramatically since i started moisturizing it regularly and put it in a protective style. and i recently realized that my hair WILL NOT hold moisture for more than 5 minutes unless I seal with shea butter, so its been doing a lot better now that i know what to do!
Ive been natural for 7 years now and I'm still trying to figure out a good system, but i think im almost there finally. lol

Jaz, I'm so happy that your hair is not breaking any longer; it's amazing how much we learn about our hair and sometimes it is the simple things that our hair needs. While you're waiting on the $$, go scope out a local Indian store to see how much their products (Henna, Indigo & Amla) are. Usually, the store's prices are so much cheaper than what you would pay on-line. If you're unsure about buying the henna and Indigo from a local Indian store, you could always just get the Amla which works great by it-self as a great conditioner.

Jaz, I've been natural over 8 years and I'm still learning. Because I've been away from hair boards for so long until last years, I've learned more in a few months that I have for years.

In terms of henna and related products, I wish there was an Indian store near me that has those items. There is one store that carries Jamila Henna, but its $8 and from 2008. I may as well get it online. Rolling Eyes

You mix it with warm water to make a paste or you can mix it with your henna. In addition to conditioning, the amla helps counteract the curl loosening effect of the henna. When I used amla alone, my curl patter was tighter and more defined until my next wash.

Thanx girlie! I got a lead on an Indian grocer. Hopefully they will have some. After you rinse it out, do you need to do anything further? DC. Wash? Anything? Have you used cassia? I'm very interested in that as well.
