Got senegalese twist /story

Post by meepmeep1101 on 19th February 2011, 1:36 am

Uhhh. I was so excited to get my twists today, and I washed my hair before and detangled it. When I got there to sit in the chair, one african lady was combing out my hair cuz it was in big twists, and i said "ow" so she let me do it. I started combing from the ends and and gradually going down towards the scalp, and the other african lady said "Thats not how you do it. You are suppose to go from the bottom up". So she took the comb, and OMG she freaking started at my scalp and forced the comb through to the ends, and at the time, my hair was almost dry. I just cried inside. Sad Lucky my hair loves protein. what a horrible experience Sad but hair looked nice when I was done. I'll post pics prolly tmorrow.

:: ouch ::

in the past i probably would have sat through it, but i'm not sure i could deal with this now...not after all the time i put into gently detangling! plus i have a low tolerance for pain. lol.

Why cry inside? It's your hair! Politely ask if you can continue to comb your hair out the way you like. Glad the twists came out nice though!

Yeah, she definitely wouldn't have touched the comb. Since starting my transition, I've started to speak up about my hair. I don't mistreat it and I can't let anyone else either. I can't wait to see your twists. I'm thinking about getting some.

When you are young you are a bit scared to speak your mind to an adult. I've been there! As you get older you will eventually speak up more as the other ladies suggested. Don't go back!

Can't wait to see the pics.

That is another example why i am so terrified about getting my hair done.

Like some above said we spent t so much time trying to get our hair in really good shape, then to have someone mess it it up Evil or Very Mad

Anyway , glad u enjoyed the twist afterward.

Your braids look good. If you go back take your own wide tooth comb. I went to get kinky twists one time and the lady pulled out this rat tail comb and was getting ready to comb my hair. I put my hand up, politely stopped her and pulled my big tooth comb out and used that comb my own hair. They have no idea what they are doing (besides the braids) and will rip your hair out if you let them.

Meep, from what I can see, they did a great job. Next time, do 3 things:

1) Talk to the person doing your hair in advance and let them know you will detangle and your hair must remain wet when it is being set/braids installed, etc.
2) detangle your hair before going to anyone
2) Take a spray bottle of your preference and if your hair begins to dry, either hand it to them or you spray it.

No suffering, no drama, you are happy, and your hair looks fly. Happy fairy tale ending.
