Does anyone else "crave the fade"?

Post by NaturallyNay on 18th February 2011, 8:00 pm

I'm having a moment today.

I'm getting the same feeling I've gotten many times in the past that lead me to the barber's chair for a BC.

I call it the itch.

I've been natural 10 years and I've BC'd like 10 times due to the itch. When I BC I cut it all off...down to a fade, which is my preferred hairstyle. The problem is that I think it's my preferred style for all the wrong reasons. Sure I feel beautiful and confident and sexy with my fade, but I also know I'm being lazy and giving in to my "fear of the fro".

This time I've been "clean" for 17 months, no hair cuts (just one trim) in all that time and I have a great head of healthy hair at a good length. Most would be very happy with this but for some reason all I want to do right now is shave it all off!

Am I the only one?

I've only been natural 18 months but I am REALLY missing when wash day was only 2-3 hrs vs a two day event. I'm not craving the fade but have been thinking about short hair.

I had the itch and it won! I am 18 months in and at 16 months I cut it all off again!

I think as women we all want a change from time to time and I see nothing wrong with it If you are craving the itch do it My daughter did it and she has been natural for 14 months now but cut if off before her 1 yr & it looks great I am only 10 months in so I want to see how long my hair will grow before cutting it off I dont have alot yet

I plan to keep mine relatively short. I don't have the time or patience to deal with long natural hair - been there, done that. It's too much work. Kinda like dogs - which is why I have a cat. I'm lazy.

I've never had a fade but I've always been jealous of those who got to big chop. If I thought I'd look good with a fade I'd cut all my hair off in a second.

I feel you! I've cut off all of my hair every few years. This is actually the first time I'm consciously trying to grow it out loose (as opposed to locking it as soon as I have 3"). The last time I had locks, I managed to grow them a good bit because figuring out ways to put them up made them feel new. So, figuring out fun ways to style can make a difference.

That said, don't at all feel bad about doing a BC! There's no rule that says you have to grow your hair out if you are happiest with it short Smile

I have definitely been feeling the itch and I am only 9 months natural! When I did my bc I shaved all my hair off and now I have 4 in and it is getting to be a pain washing & styling it. I wont cut before my 1 year anniversary but if it is still a pain when I reach that mark I will definitely cut it back down. Now 4 in may not sound like alot to most of you ladies but when you are used to having vey short, relaxed hair for your entire adult life, this feels like too much. Anywho, I will hold on but that itch gets even stronger when I see pics like sweetdrk1's fab new cut Very Happy
