Help--Hair sheddin bad!!! Empty Help--Hair sheddin bad!!!

I would appreciate some advice ladies. I've been wearing kinky braid extensions since Dec 1st 2010 through Friday 2/12/11. Took them down gently on Friday night. I washed and conditioned and deep conditioned my hair on Sat. morning. I then flat ironed using a heat protectant. It had grown a lot but the ends were totally awful. Cut about 1/2 inch total all over and it looked a lot better. As the weekend went on when i combed it Sunday morning it shed like crazy. I say shed but after examining for bulbs I didn't find any. I have had this happen in the past and i hennaed and it immediately stopped. Has any one had this problem and if so what helped the situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dawn, I used to have that problem when I wore micro braids. The only difference from I did and the steps you took is that I did not apply heat to my hair. When I took my braid out, I pood, condish, applied a thick leave in and put my hair up in protective styles for about a month.

A few suggestions:

1. give yourself a henna/conditioning treatment (you can also use Amla instead of henna for a great condis)
2. avoid heat for a while until your hair fully recovers from the extensions
3. protect your ends with either shea butter or some type of oil (Olive Oil, etc)
4. Moisturize and seal consistently.

Hope this helps.

Just it case this is shedding, to add one thing to the advice AJ gave you, if you don't want to do any type of extensive treatment, you can try garlic shampoo (Alter Ego or Nutrine are popular), Minced garlic mixed with oils, or black tea,

You could also try taking garlic supplements. I've been doing it for about 2 weeks and my shedding has just about completely stopped.
