Hey Ladies,

Quick question. Can i mix henna with any kind of tea, or does it have to be green tea? I'm trying to mix my henna tonight.

Thanks!!

any tea will work from what I've read on all of the different forums. from my own personal experience, I've used green tea, because of the non-existent smell. I've read where women use black tea, red zinger tea, etc. What you're looking for is something acidic to help with dye release. Are you using Amla in your mixture too?

thanks aj! sadly, i ordered alma as an after thought a few days after my henna order, so it won't be here until tomorrow at the earliest, but probably monday...and i can't wait! i also ordered some indigo because i'd like to keep my hair as dark as possible.

do you use alma with your henna? if so, is that the only acid you use? i'd like to keep my mix as simple as possible once the alma and indigo get here.

Hi Natty, my very first henna, I used green tea, but since then, I've only used Amla since it is acidic. I tend to keep my mixtures very simple, afraid of putting too much stuff in it - Very Happy The henna treatment I did yesterday was my first time using Indigo and I like the results; it's a very very dark brown.

My mixture:

100 grams henna
100 grams of Indigo
3 tablesppons Amla

1. Mixed Henna with distilled water until the consistency was like batter
2. Mixed Amla with distilled water to make a paste
3. Mixed the Amla with the Henna
4. Let Henna/Amla mixture sit until dye release
5. About 15 minutes before the Henna hit dye release, I mixed the Indigo and let that sit for about 15 - 20 minutes. You can tell when Indigo gets dye release because the top will turn a very dark blue.
6. Mixed the Indigo into the Henna mixture and applied

I left the mixture on about 3 hours and rinsed out.

OMG! Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much AJ. Of all the weeks I've been researching henna+amla+indigo, I haven't seen any recipe as simple and clear as what you just laid out. This sounds exactly like what I want to do.

Thank You! cheers

You're very welcome natty. I definitely like to keep things simple in my life and with my hair. Very Happy I admire others that mix all kind of other things in their henna; cloves, paprika, molasses, coffee, etc., it's just not the route that I wanted to go.

Feel free to ask any other questions or send me a PM, the wonderful thing about the journey with our hair is that we're not on the journey alone.

I used Lypton tea and that gave me a really pretty burgundy color.
