Post by NaturalG.R.I.T.S. 11th February 2011, 10:28 pm

Hello everyone, my name is Jenara. My transition to natural kind of happened on impulse. I was looking for better hair care practices for my relaxed hair. One of the recommended practices was stretching your relaxer to 3 or 4 months between relaxers. So as I was putting this into practice I kept doing more research and combing every hair board I could find. So I scheduled my hair appt with my hair stylist, who is also one of my best friends, for a relaxer (you have to schedule your appts at least 3-4 weeks in advance with her). Night before I'm still combing various hair boards and am loving the uniqueness of natural hair as well as the versatility. So I decide I to BC, I mean its just hair, right?! Needless to say she totally refused to do it when I first got there....even tried to call our other friends to stage an intervention in the middle of the shop, LOL But I would not be moved. It wasn't me going natural she was against, she services other natural clients, but the impulsiveness of my decision...she didn't want me to regret it a month from now and freak out. She finally cut it off and I was free!!

I have learned more about myself and have had to face alot of my insecurities head on the past five months...and feel like I'm a better person for it. I totally love my hair, which I am typing as 4b at the moment (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), and love the person I am becoming as a result of my journey. I not only strive to find the best hair care practices but now strive for overall wellness: mind, body and soul. I love taking care of my hair (for my own selfish reason: its the only time in my day that's mine, I working full time, I'm a full time single parent AND I'm in school getting my second Master's degree) I love the CN Family and have learned sooooo much from you guys already. I look for to sharing my journey with you going going forward

Now for the Pics Very Happy

Thanks so much ladies... tomorrow I'm going to get my ends "trimmed...haven't had a haircut since my BC got a few SSK I'd like to see gone and my ends look a lil scruffy...first the trim and DC and I'll probably band at night for the next few days for my first attempt at a frohawk this Saturday.

Quick update:

My trim last night was a success...I got just a trim, she didn't cut off alot of hair (1/4 in or less if I had to guess)...I looked at one of my pics from above and compared to now and no real set backs...I will not be defeated by the SSK!! Gonna attempt to flat twist my hair tomorrow for a frohawk Sat evening for girls night!! Smile

Not quite as successful as I would have hoped....but I'm on a steep learning curve with learning to style....
