I want to slick my hair back, but without gel
I want to learn how to slick my hair back without using gel because in my experience, gel isn't really my friend lol. It doesn't work for some reason because my hair still looks like a frizz ball; maybe i'm doing it wrong.
How do you suggest slicking your hair back into a puff?
Thanks!

Have you tried aloe vera gel? How about a lighter gel like Aubrey Organic B5 or Kiss My Face Upper Management? Those are not heavy like some of the other ones, but it really depends on what it does to your hair.
If worse come to worse you can always use a pomade like Oyin Burnt Sugar or shea butter.

Yea ive tired aloe vera gel. Its the best one i've used so far, but not the exact results I've wanted.
Will the lighter gels work though? I would think they would be too light to hold down course hair.
I will try the pomade though. What was your experience?

I have coarse hair also. I use a pomade (the one from the Curls for Target line, I forget the name). You could always set your hair with a scarf to help your edges behave.

I usually use a scarf to hold it back for a while like Songbird said.

How about a thick, rich conditioner? Apply it when your hair is soaking wet then apply a scarf for at least 15 minutes.
Another thing you could try is castor oil.

Thanks for the suggestion! How would I apply the castor oil? And will the conditioner flake?

I'm only able to get Oyin products online either through Curl Mart or on their website. They have a store locator on their site, but its only three stores nationwide.
Songbird mentioned a pomade from the Curls line that's sold at Target (assuming your Target actually caries those lines - MINE does not).

I'd put the oil on after your leave-in, a little goes a long way. If too thick, you can mix it with an oil your hair likes. I have used conditioner as my leave-in/moisturizer many times, none have flaked on me.NaturalSinceBirth wrote:ChrsLvsBks wrote:How about a thick, rich conditioner? I ususally do 100% shea butter on lightly spritzed hair and tie it down with a scarf.
