TWA Winter Woes
Hey ladies!
Though I've remained an avid reader of all of your amazing tips and advice, I haven't been active in a while. So a quick recap: I BIG CHOPPED!! Six months ago to be exact. And I looooove it (of course, I have my down days).
I have sworn by the wash and go from day 1 but, once winter hit, that landed me right in the doctor with a dangerous fever and everything else that comes with a horrid cold. Needless to say, I ran to the nearest wig shop and decided to let my hair ride out the rest of the winter braided up and protected. Love my curly little wig but sooo missing MY curls.
The braids/wig have done wonders in terms of my overall health as well as the growth of my hair but I need my beloved curls back (I have seriously become obsessed with them. Don't judge me ). Any suggestions??
Btw, Here are some pics!
Before the chop: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
5 seconds after I chopped (straight and fuzzy madness ha): [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
2 days later when I discovered YES to Cucumbers thanks to yall [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
About 5 months in: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And finally, my new "security blanket": [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
In this 6th month, my hair has grown to be thicker than I could have ever imagined and just down right beautiful and I want to let it show...without getting sick. HELP!

Re: TWA Winter Woes
You could try styling your hair at night and just fluffing in the morning. When I wore a twa and it became cold I would style my hair at night to keep from going outside with wet hair.
Re: TWA Winter Woes
Thanks Krazy Coils! I've actually tried that but my hair is very soft and fine so once I lay on it, it's a wrap lol
Re: TWA Winter Woes
I've never had a twa. I just love your shirt!! Off the shoulder fashions really do it for me! Btw, looks like you're doing a great job with your hair!!

When I had a TWA, I would spritz my hair (damp, not soaking wet - just enough to revive the curls) as soon as I get up...like right after I brush my teeth so by the time I left the house, my hair would be mostly dry.

Hello FrankliDanni...how much are you actually wetting your hair each morning? I am one that has to wet my hair every day, there is no styling the night b4 or 2nd day hair for me...I lightly spritz each morning w/either a homemade mix or something like Oyin's Juices N Berries or Shea Moisure's Moisture Mist...hope this helps, and as long as you keep luvin' your natural, it'll luv ya back...

Thanks @Ambitious Tiff and @Lynnieluv!
@Txchoclte I'm talking soaking wet. I'd usually hop in the shower and co-wash it and then hop out and throw in some Carol's Daughter Hair Milk, Fantasia IC gel and shea butter and walk out the door. If there wasn't time for a shower, I'd run it under the water in the tub and finish with the same thing. This is the only way the products really have any effect, otherwise they'll just sit on top of my hair
I'm thinking I may have no choice but to ride this braids/wig routine out for another month or two and by that time it will be consistenly more warm here and my hair should be at a length where I'd be comfortable rocking twist outs, bantu knots, and rod sets. Oooh I can't wait.
Thank you ladies for all your input!

It could be the products you are using. The products shouldn't just sit on your hair. I have a TWA and only wear wash and go's. I spritz my hair in the morning right after I brush my teeth, apply my products, do my makeup, get dressed and I'm out the door. All in all it's about 45 mins so by the time I leave my hair is still damp (since I really get it wet, misting doesn't work for me) but the products have started to dissipate into my hair. Also, what type of leave in are you using? You mention CD Hair Milk, is that the leave in? I ask because you might need to apply some type of leave in/water based moisturizer, then your gel so that your hair would absorb the products. I hope that helps.
By the way, I'm almost 1 year natural (I've chopped again in between so that's why my hair is still TWA) and still battle dryness. I think it's something that a lot of TWA curlies face at some point.

Thanks Dva!
I've actually just started to use the Yes To Cucumbers leave in and I love it. Haven't gotten the chance to use it on my wash and go yet though. Never really had an issue with dryness, however. My hair just performs much better when WET as opposed to just damp. Def will see if the leave in makes a difference though so thanks!
And just curious, why'd you BC again?
