Post by natural nu on 8th February 2011, 10:55 am

*sighs* ok so i am having the worst time with my twist outs. after wash and dc i let my hair air dry till it's almost dry and then i start my twist....ok so i don't like it. don't really like using a lot of heat on my hair. i last blow dry my hair over a month ago(my hair is a little past my ear) . now when i did blow dry last and did the twist out i like how they came out but i don't want to blow dry every time i do a twist out. does anyone have any other ways i can try????

I've never done a dry twistout before. What products are you using for the twist?

Here's my routine: I cowash my hair and then while its still wet (no products added yet) I put it in puffs with ouchless bands (usually around 9 or 10). I then take each puff (I spritz with a water/oil mixture if it starts to get dry), then rake KCNT throught it and follow that with my eco custard mix. I finger separate the puff and put in my 2 strand twist. My twistouts have great definition and moisture (that eco custard is the bizness!!). Here is a pic of the twists:

You ever try twisting it wet? Not a big fan of dry two strand twist.

have you tried banding to stretch you hair instead of the blow dryer

I band my hair everytime I wash it, and let it air dry for about 2-3 hrs after that my hair is nice and stretched and then i began twisting...Ive been using this method for about 3 months now and I love it..

here a vid tutorial on how to do it (there is tons on you tube)

This is how my bands look about 3 months ago..I had about 2 1/2- 3 inches so it can be done on all hair lengths

I do my twists on wet hair (I tried it dry once, but didn't like it). I use ORS Lock n Twist gel. It has great hold & shine!

I love dry twisting my hair.

After I wash, I apply my leave-in (usually HEHH) and plait into about 8-10 plaits to stretch.

When 90% dry, I unplait and do mini-twists on each section, usually using my whipped shea mix (shea butter & jojoba oil, with lavender for scent).

Really simple, my hair loves it, and I can go 2 weeks without itchies!

If your hair is shorter you might need gel to hold the twists.

I do my twist out on dry hair.. but right before i twist i spritz it with EVOO and water then i apply a mixture of a moisturizer and sume sort of gel to twist. then after wards you can seal with an oil if you like.

You could try it that way aswell

@CiaE: My custard consist of eco styler gel (the one w/olive oil), evoo and evco. I haven't added aloe vera gel yet, which will probably make it even better...LOL.

@rayray: thanks!

You can go any health food store and just pick up a jar of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil unrefined. Doesn't matter what brand to be honest. They have so many. I see you live in NYC so more than likely you'll come across the brand Spectrum alot.
