Henna and Hair Color Empty Henna and Hair Color

I know you aren't "supposed" to do henna and hair color. But I'm doing it anyway. Well sort of. I plan on using a highlighting kit and just highlighting a few strands of hair in my bang area. But I'd also like to do a cassia treatment (with honey and lemon) to lighten my entire head. I've done the treatment before and it lightened my hair about 2 shades. My question is, should I do the cassia treatment first, and then do the highlights. Or should I do the highlights first and then do the cassia. Cassia really isn't supposed to change the color of dark hair. But it could deposit color on colored hair, especially since I'm doing blonde highlights. If I'm not mistaken, blonde curlies use cassia instead of henna on their hair. Any thoughts?

That's a lot. I would do one or the other. The reason behind not using color with henna is because henna coats the hair shaft with can prevent even distribution of the hair color. If you highlight just keep in mine that the color you chose for highlights may get lighter and if you do it the other way around the henna & cassia may prevent the color from showing up at all.

Excellent point. If I do the cassia first, my hair may not take to the dye. So, since I'm only highlighting a small section of my hair, do you think maybe I should just separate that section out whenever I do the cassia?

If the color is exactly what you want then yes. Just be sure to focus a lot of attention on that area when deep conditioning. I color my hair when I get bored and I have learned that if you don't DC properly you will experience a lot of breakage

Ok. I will definitely up my DCing. That's actually why I won't do all over color. I don't want to harm my hair. But I figure a few choice strands in the front shouldn't hurt.

Tia: another question: How long after u colored your hair did you start doing henna or any type of ayurvedic treatment? Once I color my hair will I never be able to do it again until all the hair grows out?

A few months later. I only henna twice a year so the henna and dye are usually not close together. You can henna with your hair dyed BUT to get the color deposit the dye will have to sit on longer and the longer the dye remains on your hair the chances that your texture may change increases.
