Sick Scalp ----NEED HELP
Hey ladies, I'm currently into my 4th month of transitioning, I'm loving my hair, but my scalp is really sick along my hair line (severe flaking and thin edges) . My doctor told my it's dermatitis. I have a prescription which i use, but it leaves my scalp really dry. As you know this is problematic for new growth. what do you guys suggest? I'm considering trying bee mine sensitive hair serum, but i'm not sure. I already have so many products...thanks in advance
BTW - thanks CN for your amazing site, there are some many resources here for newbies like me. [b]

stop using sulfate shampoos. those cause dryness and strip the hair of oils. i'd suggest using real black soap (real black soap is brown) or maybe karen's body beautiful shampoo bars.
use a moisturizer then follow up with a good oil like coconut oil or black castor oil. i'm noticing the castor oil is restoring my edges slowly but surely.

I posted this earlier... its from another thread....
I can totally relate to all of you! I have suffered with both dermatitis and psoriasis. I was totally natural until my junior year. I started “smelling myself” and got a perm for my junior prom. My hair was BSL and thick…. Over the years my hair started breaking and the scabs started forming. My edges started thinning and my hair became weak. While I was in college, I became the sew-in queen. Unknowingly, I started to become natural again. I haven’t had a perm in over 5 years (I didn’t start taking care of my hair until late 2009). I visited a trichologist this past year that explained that I had both dermatitis and psoriasis on my scalp.
Over the year I have had little to no break outs due to several treatments:
- Apple Cider Vinegar- Like someone suggested I place this on my scalp for about 20- 30 mins, but I do it after a shampoo and conditioner. It is the last thing that touches my scalp on a “wash day.”
- Neem Oil or Powder- The oil smell is horrible, so I stick with the powder. It reduces inflammation and has an antibacterial property that helps with the psoriasis.
- Vatikia Oil- I have a personal mixture that I use on my hair of Vatikia Oil, Rosemary, Avocado Oil and Jojo oil
- Henna- I henna once a month and I have seen a total difference in my scalp. I usually have a white film on my scalp which lets me know that I need to perform an ACV treatment; however in the past 6 months I haven’t seen that at all.
I try to use more natural products and less commercial product. Also diet plays a roll in out breaks.
I hope this helps… if you need any additional suggestion just IM me.

Re: Sick Scalp ----NEED HELP
Hi guys I am having a similar problem with my 4 year old. She had a problem similar to ringworm of the scalp and was given some medicated shampoo and an oral medication in March. As of the summer it had cleared but now I see that something else is going on. She has some little white patches in her scalp and her hair is coming out from the root in the front. I had been using I had been using some of the oils I use but I don't know what to do now. I am really afraid that she is going to loose her hair across the front.

My scalp is not in the best conditioner either. Try doing an ACV rinse on a weekly basis. It's pretty good and clears the scalp up really nice. Also try eliminating all products with fragance in them because that doesn't help at all. Try co washing your hair and scalp more often too because itchy and irritated scalps need to be kept very clean.

You could try Amla. Its supposed to help with scalp and skin problems and condition the hair.

I may have to try the ACV rinse too. It seems like ever since my Henna application my scalp has been dryer than before and I oil my scalp regularly. I'll try it some time this week I guess after I co wash.
Re: Sick Scalp ----NEED HELP
I just started using the Trader Joe's Tea Tree Shingle and it's done wonders for my itchy and dry scalp!
