Maxiglide Reviews! Empty Maxiglide Reviews!

Post by Niqui36 19th December 2010, 1:40 pm

I've been thinking about purchasing one of these because I want to straighten my hair before I do minitwists again. I'd also like to just have a good straightener on hand. I have a ceramic flatiron but I'm not really thrilled with it. I like the idea of the maxiglide having teeth. Has anyone used this iron, or have one? What do you think about it? Thanks.

I used this iron for the first time three days ago on level 5 (of 10) and I'm please with the results. My hair is soft and it doesn't smell burnt.

I must say that my hair was not stick straight. To accomplish that I would either have to blow-dry first or use a higher setting and I'm not sure I'm willing to do either. I'm too scared of heat damage. It took a lot of guts for me to even straighten in the first place.

This is so funny b/c I buy things from HSN and from time-to-time and I visit the site to see what's new and their specials. One of their current specials is the maxiglide. I actually viewed the video on the site, listened to the stylist who developed it, and read all the reviews, plus additional reviews else where. Just be careful, there are 2 versions. The XP is the model for highly textured hair. I posted a thread not long ago about heat damage and mentioned a YTer, Leobodyc5. She has used it for several years and her hair is beautiful. There are several benefits, i.e., steam to infuse moisture prior to flat ironing the section, ceramic and it has both the flat plate and the one that is shown in the picture on the site that is a plus for highly textured hair, and 10 heat settings, etc.. Several products accompany this deal, and fortunately the ingredient lists are available so you know what is in the products. The good news, you don't have to use the products if the ingredients are objectionable to you. Of note is you would have to experiment with products to sustain the straight look (in other words, products that would allow the hair to "resist" the frizzy, poofy hair that is likely to occur later in the day or the next day) since they used their products on the models. There are other YTers providing reviews, but she is one of my preferred YTers based on what I have seen and heard from her. Hope this helps a bit.

I actually ordered it from HSN. I did use it to straighten my hair and it works great! @no1blkbeauty, your hair is gorgeous!!!! I used level 8 on my hair and I think that was too much. I had watched one of my fav youtubers and that was the level she used. I had not used a flatiron since I was relaxed and I forgot my hair doesn't take much heat to straighten. Luckily I didn't get any heat damage, but next time (next year) lol I know to use a lower setting!

Blkbeauty - nice fotki. Thanks for sharing. Also, I was wondering if you used the Maxius products with the Maxiglide or did you use different products. If you used different products, which did you use, specifically what heat protectant/anti-frizz serum, etc.?

Niqui, I didn't realize how old this thread is. I haven't been on much lately. Let us know how it works when you use it and also what products you use with it.

@naturallynola, I used it already and I like it. I blowdryed my hair first on the cool setting, then used the maxiglide. I used a homemade mix of shea butter, grapeseed oil and jojoba oil as my heat protectant.

Niqui - Thxs I keep hearing about shea butter and grapeseed oil as heat protectants. I continue to gather info for my future straightening endeavor in the not too near future.

Will do! One day, I will want a change, I'm sure and desire a straight style, but not yet. Also, the henna and clay treatments give you a pretty good indication of your hair length, if that is of interest. I don't really worry about length. I just want my hair to be as healthy as it can be.

This is the only flat iron that I have used on my natural hair. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOOVE IT!!!! I alternate the heat setting between 0 (yes 0, off) and 1. This iron gets pretty hot on 1, so before I apply it to my hair, I'll turn it off then iron my hair. I have pics in my December album and several other albums.

Oh wow! You used it on 0 and 1? I used 8 so I know that was too much. So glad and thankful I didn't get heat damage!!!

I have this flat iron and I love it too. I usually use setting 7 on my hair to get it straight. I usually use the flat plates rather than the comb plate.
