Baggy Method Empty Baggy Method

Post by natural_nance 20th December 2009, 8:19 pm

I need some advice. I've done the baggy method all this week and so far I like the results. I found that this is super easy for me to do and I want to continue doing it for the rest of winter with hopes of retaining a lot of length. What I plan to do is wash & DC Sundays and wear the baggy througout the week w/ phony buns. And if possible I'll try to co-wash once during the week. I'm new to hair care and I hope that this would help but I'm wondering if I could end up damaging my hair doing this?? BTW when I baggy I use cantu shea butter leave in and seal w/ shea butter and extra virgin olive oil Thanks for the help!!!

This first thing that comes to mind for me is "Will your hair get used to the baggying and then become dry and brittle when you stop?" (kinda like a Jheri curl)
I only baggy overnight when I do, I haven't heard of anyone doing it for an extended time. I really don't have any advice on whether it would be damaging or helpful for your hair.

Now I'm confused. With the baggy method you are supposed to leave the bag on, all day, covered? Id only done at night can you simply take off the plastic and go. Or from having it exposed do you need to re-apply conditioner?

I only do it overnight. My thought process gets way too deep about it and I feel like if I leave it on too long that my hair will get used to the moisture-then when it dries it will start to break off.

LOL. I was wondering. I went to Chicoro's fotki and her hair is gorgeous, but she wore her baggy bun with netting over it, while going out. I like to see my hair. Maybe I will baggy when I wear hats!

Question. I baggied the other night and when I woke up, it was like I had washed my hair [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] My hair was drenched! I tend to sweat A LOT in my head. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I should modify the amount of time that I leave it on? Lost.....lol

Did you have a cap over your whole head? If so just baggy over a braided (or loose) pony/puff, and not your whole head.

I baggied my for the first time last nite and love the results of it. I just moisturize my hair with oil (castor and grapeseed oil, and orange and spearmint essential oils), water, a curl activator (because it has protein) after I twisted my hair. When i woke up styling was a breeze.

I know i will continue to do this for the whole winter and half of spring.

I baggy twice a week and love the ending results. I spray on my glycerin mix lightly and rub a little butter cream over my head then cover my whole head with a plastic cap. I leave my cap on for approx 3 -4 hours.

Check out my site ladies http://sheshay.com

I baggied one time and I did my whole head as well. My head was soaked and I was FREEZING when I woke up! I felt so icky. Doubt I'll be trying this again until my hair is long enough where I can just baggy my ponytail or something.

I've baggied for weeks at a time w/out issues. Great at keeping the ends moist /sealed /reduce splits! May revisit in the near future.

I have a question, If I co wash, DC and set my hair in twist for half the week, how can I go about bagging, my ends are in desperate need, plus I'm still recovering from doing the powders wrong (long story) but should I just spritz nightly with my glycerin/oil mix and put a plastic shower cap on ?

and on the days I have my hair lose just pull up in a pony and do the ends with a 'lil baggy with spritz and maybe a creame based moisutrize like shea.

I'm just trying to figure this out because I set my hair with twist or braids were it most of the week then wear it lose the other half till my next co wash.

I possibly just need to trim soon it's been over 8 wks, but I still want to be aggressive now and after the trim, to really treat my ends with care.

I've been looking for a link that I found a while ago showing the baggy bun method. You're essentially doing the same thing as the baggy method but it's an option for if you want to wear it all day. I haven't done it myself in a while so I have no pics to reference with. Your hair doesn't have to be soaking wet, just moisturized. I prefer mine to be damn or dry and just moisturize my ends. You start with straight or curly hair and it has to be long enough to put in a low ponytail. You slide the ponytail holder down towards the end of the ponytail. Cover the end (the lower half of the ponytail) with your baggy. Cover the plastic bag with a dark scrunchy or tube socks with the toes cut out so that the plastic is less visible. Take the baggy and sock/scrunchy and flip it upwards to the base of your head and tuck it in the top half of your ponytail. Gather the sides of your hair to cover the baggy/sock/scrunchy and secure with a jaw clip or whatever you desire. I hope this makes at least some sense! I will continue to try to find the link or pictures of it and I will do it myself as soon as I'm able. Hope this helps!

I'm a little confused. If you're taking the sides of your hair to cover the baggy, how is the hair IN the baggy??? I don't get it!!!

I can not find the original link anywhere but this is done exactly like the Southern Tease, only, you secure the baggy over the very ends. When she pulls the sides up to create the bun, thats' what covers your baggy/sock/scrunchy.
