ALOT of Q's

Post by LuvJonez on 29th January 2011, 4:19 pm

Hey Ladies,

I've recently hit a year mark and I really wanna start embracing my hair. When I did my bc, I was at a ceasar length, no transitioning...extreme bc. Now it's more or less shoulder length or a little longer. Problem is, I'm still at a loss. What to do with it? I'm waiting to finally achieve a Mufasa lion's mane lol. I wore weaves & lace fronts for the entire time, now I'm tired of those. So I'm attempting. I've plaited my hair, cornrowed, two strand twisted, coiled & didnt really like any. That's more likely because it shrinks and does that "cock'n off" (for lack of the proper phrase) thing that I can't stand. It just goes in any direction it wants instead of lying flat. It's more of a soul sista, black panther Afro (which there's nothing wrong with) instead of dropping down like Curly Nikki's. Currently I have my first coil out, which I did not like once it was done or the morning after...so here's my Q's, what are your suggestions/routines on detangling after a coil out? How often do you co-wash? I think I'm going to try a wash & go, how many times a week should that be done? How long do wash and go's last? How long was my coil out suppose to last? (I'm on the 2nd day since I did it...it looks blah!!!) Anyone have any hairstyles that I should try? My hair type is mainly 4b w/ a little bit of 4a from ear to ear going around the back & in the back of my head..sooo weird. HELP PLZ

check out:RayRay19 on page 2 talks about her results from banding http://curlynikki.forumotion.com/t7971p25-rayray19-update?highlight=banding

From reading what you typed, you have a different curl pattern, porosity, etc than her. Currently I have my first coil out, which I did not like once it was done or the morning after...so here's my Q's, what are your suggestions/routines on detangling after a coil out? Never had a coil out but read this: How often do you co-wash? I think I'm going to try a wash & go,L I have 4b hair and am scared to wash and go. If I leave my hair "out" it will result in single strand knots. how many times a week should that be done? How long do wash and go's last?
I found these posts about wash and go's. Check these out

Since you do not like what you tried so far, how about a bantu knot out or a twisted up do.
MsVaughn's and Naptural85's youtube videos are good. They have BEAUTIFUL hair and great hair tips! Here is a link to Naptural85's bantu knot out video

The 1/28/11 post on the front page listed some hair styles. My hair type is mainly 4b w/ a little bit of 4a from ear to ear going around the back & in the back of my head..sooo weird. Not weird. Some folks have 3 different textures on their head. HELP PLZ
Good luck to you. I hope you begin to truly embrace your hair texture. It definitely requires a change in perspective. I think the many different kinks, coils, curls we have are quite beautiful. Best wishes!!

Hey LuvJones-
If you are 4b, it'll take some time before your hair starts to "hang"...

I'm thinking that my hair will have to be quite long before it starts to grow downward, simply because i have 4c hair...

If you want to strech your hair, you can also blow dry it and braid it up (big braids)...

So yeah- different textures do different things...so enjoy your hair..
Good luck on your journey, chica....

Thanks thinice, I appreciate all the info. I'm up early to do my research and follow the direction ur pointing me in. When it comes to hair, I've always been "haunted" LOL, always trying something new, even when I was relaxed. I'm gunna try the wash and go 2day w/ my fingers crossed & then banding sometime next week or 2m if my result aren't good. Wish me luck!!!!

Fanmnatirel, thanx. Ok, so I'm nt alone in the not hanging area lol. I maybe blow-dried a handful of times over the year, mainly jus let it air dry, but that's something to consider
