The Devacut? Empty The Devacut?

Post by curlista 21st January 2011, 2:22 am

I've always seen looser hair types talking about their wonderful experiences with the devacut at the Devachan Salons but I've never seen it on coarser, tighter hairtypes. Have any of you experienced one before? Or seen it done on a 4a or 4b, etc.?

I didn't know what it was either. confused But I do now! LOL

A deva cut is not really a specific hair style, like the "posh bob," but a hair cutting technique created by Lorraine Massey, the author of "Curly Girl" and co-owner of Devachan Salon, in New York City. With this technique, each curl is cut individually and normally at an angle so as to not disrupt the curl pattern. Deva cuts can be long, short, or in-between.

The advantage of deva cuts, I think, is that is works with the curl pattern. Most traditional hair cutting techniques were created for straight hair.

There are different curly hair cutting techniques. Quidad does something called "carve & slice," and some other stylist uses something called a "tunnel cut." I've never had any type of curly cut, so I can't compare.

Yea, exactly what brownsuga38 said lol. They cut the hair dry so they can see how your curls naturally form and "shape" it to fit you.

So I watched the video and I didn't really like it. It looked kind of boxy and lopsided. I know she had the sides cut shorted for a "tapered" look I guess but I didn't like it. *shrug* Am I the only one with this opinion? Ok I take that back the camera pictures give better lighting. I like it better in those pictures.

There are some great pictures in the new "Curly Girl Handbook". I'll try and scan some images within the next couple of days, but if I can't, i would recommend sneaking a peek at the book, in pages 60-69, at your local Barnes & Noble

In my day to day I wear sheer, shiny lip glosses. Special occasions? Girl I feel like I am doing something if I put on lip gloss, mascara, and eyeshadow! Lol, I have no idea how to use or choose foundations or any of the other stuff. I'm always afraid I will end up looking like Mrs. Bozo. Embarassed Oooooohhhh! I'mma have to hit her up too then! Very Happy

Lol, a mess! My last one was a wedding in September. Now mind you, I HAVE a lot of make up (especially for the eyes) but I am always finding reasons not to use it. Lol, at the wedding I was like, "I don't wanna steal the bride's thunder... Lol, I'll get my shine on another day" We'll get on it one day.

Her haircut is so super fly! I want something very similar when my hair gets to be around that length.
