I got a lil excited when i saw this post title because i LOOOOVE oil rinses!!! i just started doing them about 3 weeks ago, and im hooked..I do them every time i wash my hair as well, and i use Castor oil..once i rinse the oil out my hair feels SUPER SOFT..I know people always say such and such made my hair soft..no really oil rinses really leave it soft and moisturized to the point where i don't even want to add my leave in or sealants (but i do)

I think Tia introduced it to me the first time around and yes I do it! Nikki posted something about it on the main page the other day. It works wonders!

Love oil rinses. I also use Castor oil mixed with EVOO and it really helps with detangling.

OK I am sold, Big sis you might have to walk me through this one LOL. Do I only do it when I wash my hair or can I do it before a co-wash? Does this takes the place of a deep conditioning or can i still do that?

I've done it with both washing and co-washing my hair. I wouldn't say it takes the place of deep conditioning although I have deep conditioned with just oils which can get really messy (lol). The last time I did an oil rinse I actually deep conditioned my hair first on dry hair if you want to try it that way.

It's funny that you posted this because I just tried this technique this morning and it didn't work out for me. I'm not sure if it is because I didn't use the right oil or if it's because I used a deep conditioner afterwards but my hair felt waxy and it didn't feel soft at all. My hair is usually pretty soft after regular shampooing and conditioning so I was really surprised. I actually had to wash my hair again. I just read the article posted on Curly Nikki about the technique so maybe I'll try using coconut oil and see if that makes a difference.

thanks all for your reply I did the oil rinse the other day with EVcoconut oil and EVOO I felt like my hair was moisturized that next day but that was it. I had to put in other things by the next night cause my hair eventurally was dry as all outdoors. I swear no matter what i do i have to put more and more oil in my hair everyday. Thought this would help not to have to put it in my hair everyday but i was wrong. I will try the method a few more times to make sure that i was doing the process right and also change up the oils to do a good review on it. I also cowahed after it with yes to cucumbers so don't know if that was the culpit or not

I've just recently tried oil rinses and LOVE THEM! I used EVOO, about 1/2 cup. My hair was very soft and moisturized and not greasy when all was said and done. Definitely incorporating this into my regimen.

This is new to me. I'll definitely have to give it a try!
Can you use any of oil of your preference or is it best to use specific recommendations?

I oil rinse with parachute coconut oil like this long haired indian woman in a youtube video. I use it when I co-wash and shampoo. I can only use coconut oil when I co-wash but I will use a different oil when I shampoo (because I am trying to get rid of these oils). If I oil rinse then co-wash with anything other than coconut oil, my hair is goopey and I will HAVE to shampoo to get it out.

I didn't do an oil rinse as the link pointed out, but I did soak my hair with oil for about a half an hour before washing - it was the best think I've done for my hair in a long time. My hair was so soft and easy to work with after cleansing.

Did mine with EVOO for an hour, then i put in some YTC on top of the oil and let that sit for a hour. My hair was sooo soft and the moisture level was great.

I used to do oil rinses all the time when I had a TWA. Now that I have started cowashing again, I will incorporate it back into my regimen. I used EVOO.

Laughing That as the first image that popped in my mind too! I coud hear Chris Rock saying "GIrl, you betta run if you see some black folks with some scissors coming towards you!" lol. I wonder how long it took her to grow that hair. The difference though it that her hair is straight and ours is curly. We ould have a tangled mess if we let down like that and ent for a day. OH WOW! You could have a mega fro!

I'm trying to let mine get to waistlength just to see if I can. Right now its a little below BSL stretched, and it can get into a tangled mess NOW, if I let my HIH get outta control. I can't imagine letting it get that long and taking care of it myself. Shocked

I bet the weight of all that hair wet could snap a neck!
